GUILTY times 165: Jury convicts Aurora theater shooter

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Nearly three years after a gunman walked into a packed movie theater and opened fire, killing 12 and injuring 70 others, an Arapahoe County jury on Thursday convicted the Aurora theater shooter of 165 counts — including 24 counts first-degree murder — a verdict that could lead to the death penalty.

The nine-woman, three-man jury returned the verdict after 13 hours of deliberations, which began Wednesday at the Arapahoe County Justice Center. The verdict came 1,091 days after the massacre took place on July 20, 2012.

He will get the death penalty for show however Colorado has only executed 1 person since capital punishment was reinstated, that was in 1977, so either way it's life in prison without parole, just for the record I think they should follow through and fry the SOB

Just wanted to make a correction. (wikipedia really needs to update some info, I know my bad for using wiki), Colorado's last execution was in 1997, that's still only 2 in 50 years.

@SM Death row cases are so much more expensive than a life w/o parole cases, which got me to wondering why would Colorado spend the time and money to prosecute a death penalty case when he probably will never be executed anyway, it seems like an awfully expensive dog and pony show to me. Just to be clear I am all for capital punishment, I think it would be worth every cent if they would follow through.

Yes, they do take too long and all the legal finagling is what I'd call disgusting.  Really.  The issue I have with death row is that it costs so much to keep such awful people alive.  Ya know?  Sitting on death row for the rest of his life.

These trials take way too long, should have been found guilty 2 years ago.
