George W. Bush, **** Cheney Convicted Of War Crimes

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/05/13/george-w-bush-****-cheney-convicted-of-war-crimes/

In the first verdict of its kind since former President George W. Bush left office, he and several members of his administration have been successfully convicted in absentia of war crimes in Malaysia.

Yes, this is a BFD.

This past Friday, a five panel tribunal delivered a unanimous guilty verdict after a week long trial that, unsurprisingly, was not covered by American media. The witnesses included several ex-Guantanamo detainees that gave testimony on the conditions and human rights violations that were systematically carried out under orders of the Bush administration.

Former President Bush, Former Vice-President **** Cheney, Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and the legal advisers Alberto Gonzales, David Addington, William Haynes, Jay Bybee and John Yoo that crafted the legal ‘justification’ for torture that basically said, ‘we can if we want to even if it’s illegal’ were the defendants. None were present, of course, but international war crime trials do not require the presence of the accused. The trial was run according to the standards set by the Nuremberg Trials to convict war criminals after World War II.

Professor Gurdial Singh Nijar, who headed the prosecution said, “The tribunal was very careful to adhere scrupulously to the regulations drawn up by the Nuremberg courts and the International Criminal Courts”.

The United States is subject to international law which makes this trial significant beyond the borders of Malaysia. Foreign Policy Journal reports:

President Lamin told a packed courtroom: “As a tribunal of conscience, the tribunal is fully aware that its verdict is merely declaratory in nature. The tribunal has no power of enforcement, no power to impose any custodial sentence on any one or more of the 8 convicted persons. What we can do, under Article 31 of Chapter VI of Part 2 of the Charter is to recommend to the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission to submit this finding of conviction by the tribunal, together with a record of these proceedings, to the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, as well as the United Nations and the Security Council.

“The Tribunal also recommends to the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission that the names of all the 8 convicted persons be entered and included in the Commission’s Register of War Criminals and be publicized accordingly.

“The Tribunal recommends to the War Crimes Commission to give the widest international publicity to this conviction and grant of reparations, as these are universal crimes for which there is a responsibility upon nations to institute prosecutions if any of these Accused persons may enter their jurisdictions.”

The hope is that other countries will hold trials of their own and the guilty verdicts will mount up. This is not that outlandish an idea as Bush and Cheney have not only brazenly admitted they authorized torture in direct contravention of the Geneva Convention, but bragged about it. Nothing more helpful than having a criminal do all the heavy lifting for the prosecution. If enough of these verdicts are passed on to the international courts, they will have no choice but to hold a trial of their own. While Bush won’t be arrested on American soil, he’ll have a very difficult time leaving the country. Already he’s canceled a trip to Switzerland, due to possible charges of war crimes.

The best possible outcome is that the world court delivers a guilty verdict that sends a clear message to President Obama and his successors that the United States is not above the law, American Exceptional-ism be damned. It’s a lesson we’ve forgotten and need to relearn.

Aren't the Zeta's an illegal faction of a drug cartel?  They've got no problem lopping heads off, but I don't think you can blame America for that strategy.  I'm not sure where beheading is taught within the military.

How many individuals were beheaded at GITMO?  I think the count is up to 0, still.

'President Lamin told a packed courtroom: “As a tribunal of conscience, the tribunal is fully aware that its verdict is merely declaratory in nature. The tribunal has no power of enforcement, no power to impose any custodial sentence on any one or more of the 8 convicted persons.'

In other words, It was a big waste of time.

Okay, let's try again. You say:
"I respect your opinion, but does that opinion stretch to the other side of the fence, or rest squarely on Republican shoulders? "

In case you didn't understand this statement of mine:
"Personally, I'd like to etch-a-sketch the whole gang and start with a clean slate."

I'll change it to say :Personally, I'd like to etch-a-sketch all the politicians in DC, of both parties, and start with a clean slate.

Liberals are funny... in a cute, "my child is retarded" kind of way...

The same can be said of some Republicans, of course, but I have to throw the first punch!

*The use of the word "retarded" was meant to offend no one. I'd have used the more politically correct term 'mentally handicapable', however, it didn't quite fit with the crass, silly point I was trying to get across;-)

I have to admit this whole subject baffles me. I had not delved into it until I saw this article. Dont even know if the article is true because I didnt research it either. But while I was researching I found the following.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/cheney/etc/synopsis.html

I had not seen this before either and had never heard of Cheneys Law.

Oh good grief. If under his presidency he allowed water boarding and the such then yes, he would be guilty as well. However, we are not talking about Obama are we?

If memory serves me there are laws we are supposed to be abiding by here and I think its called the geneva conventions?

.The rules of the Geneva Convention are the set of rules established after World War Two which lay the ground work for what is allow during a "just war", as well as begin to define a "just war."

Regardless of what someone else may do we here in the US do try to abide last I heard.

And how is he sort of neck deep into it? Sources?

If memory serves me, Obama decided to let this whole issue slide did he not?

Wasn't calling you out or anything. I was just wondering if the whole 'war crimes' thing extended to BO, in your opinion, as he's sort of neck-deep in it himself.

I respect your opinion, but does that opinion stretch to the other side of the fence, or rest squarely on Republican shoulders?

Oh~ pullleeeeze, give it a break.
I'm entitled to my opinion as you're entitled to yours.

Personally, I'd like to etch-a-sketch the whole gang and start with a clean slate.

So is BO going to be charged with the same "war crimes" for continuing the war?

I'm just saying...

I know he's not responsible for anything that happened in the country prior to his election, but short of coming out and condemning the war outright and immediately pulling every single troop out of harms way, isn't he in fact putting his endorsement on said war?

I'm working on staying calm and relaxed so let me just say, I disagree with you entirely on torture, in fact war is torture.

Bush and Cheney are indeed guilty in my mind, of these crimes, and many more.

I'm probably wrong, but its my understanding that not much can be done unless we do our own 'war crimes" trials here....

When I think of torture, perhaps some of what happened can be seen as torture.  Take waterboarding, for instance.  (Did anyone die while being water boarded?)

Now, lets say you line up a few bad guys.  Stand them against the wall and randomly pull a bad guy out for questioning.  You ask a question and do not receive an answer, so you lop off his melon.  (To me, that seems torturous... now the remainders assume it will happen to them because you did it right in front of them.)  How can that not be a war crime?  Next guy steps up, you ask him a question with the same result and lop his pumpkin off....  If I had to choose between "almost drowned" and "head removed", tie me up and start spilling the water.

So here is my question. IF this be true, does that mean that if either of them travel to that country, they will be arrested and sentenced? I tend to agree with Brice for the most part on this but how does this work exactly?

As far as the topic goes, I'd react differently if it hadn't been done in Malaysia.
I've been to Malaysia~ very restrictive place.

This subject....?  I get so frustrated that anyone is spending time on this.  If these countries or its citizens were so concerned with these war crimes, why are they not coughing up the individuals within their borders guilty of crimes like this, and worse?!?

Beheading Americans is a tolerable thing?  You certainly cannot ask those Americans about the torture they endured before having their heads severed, so who do you ask... the guy who did the severing?

B.S. on this and any war crimes tribunal, unless they are going to be fair and hunt everyone down.  (I am not saying I condone torture.  I am saying that not even half of the story is coming out, and that there isn't a fair search for all potentially guilty parties.)

I say we (America) charge every single country from which we are housing detainees for the room and board, the security detachments that are keeping them, the multi million dollar soccer stadium we built for them.... CHARGE THEM!  Continue to charge them.  The medical attention they receive has a cost, so charge them.  The food and particular dietary needs being met have a cost, so charge them.  We can either do that or go barbarian on them and start lopping their heads off.... they condone that activity in their "neck" of the woods.  (It would be a lot cheaper.)
