We must have been watching the same CNN report, Margy. I was also taken
aback with the on-going plight and the food riots. I can only presume that the
disorganization is a result of an exhausted and overwhelmed support system.
That is true butterfly and I guess as the days go by we will hopefully see a turn for the better , with so much help going in surely its a matter of getting the food out to the tented areas that folks are living in getting soup kitchens opened everywhere . not throwing food off trucks like that ...its creating riots ....
The benefit run by George Clooney the other night raised $66 million I hear today that there is an enquiry as to where all the$ 66 Million is going and if all is going to the people of Haiti have any of you heard the latest on this matter .?
I have not heard about that----------- I hope it is not true. I would hate to think my "boyfriend" let me down. ha ha. But seriously, I am sure there is lots of that type of thing going on.
I saw a report yesturday again talking about the hardships for children. Many kids are sold into slavery there by their families. Their family believes that their kids will be better taken care of and educated as a result of the sale. That is not the case and they live a life of servitude and are often beaten and sexually assaulted. And if that wasn't horrible enough, now due to the earthquake--------- those child slaves are alone. There is a man that was a child slave himself that is trying to help them. So sad.
The report I saw on Fox showed a line of kids getting some food and maybe some candy, I hope so, and their little faces were beaming and bright it made me feel a little happier, for me and for you guys I expect, I want to just fly out there and pass out candy and have fun with them and play kids games , take them a ton of books to read in all languages , and have someone sit and read to them ,show that we do care .,they wont ever be forgotten again ..
Yes, I will say that even through all the despair, they are a country of happy people. Very colorful and always singing. I honestly would love to adopt a child from their. Have the adoptions speeded up?
They have but there is much controversy about it and their Foreign Minister is trying to stop many children going away , I understand that as they do have relatives here , it should be a slower process I dont like this big rush .
Well, yes---- if there are children that have a family here that they can be with that would be preferred. It seemed like there were already a number of orphans there in need of a home BEFORE the earthquake. Some were alreay in the process of being adopted. And at least those should move forward.
Yes that I do think is a good thing I meant the new applications that are appearing and although I think a child would have a good life in America if they have roots and family that should be checked out first ,I got the impression thats what the foreign Minister of Haiti meant ..A lot of good will come out of this Horror it is a fresh begining for them ..
Thats a nasty business those Americans trying to take children out who had relatives, close ones in Haiti I just hope they were trying to help ...I can t believe there would be any Ulterior motive , part of a Baptist Church I heard.
I agree with you Margy, there was an interview with one of the parents of the kids and she wanted an education and better life for her daughter. I did bother me that the people caught taking the kids across the boarder lied about them being orphans.
I am sure at least I think I am that they had good intentions ,but looks like they will be in court for kidnapping, with all the horrendous stuff that went on in child trafficking before the eathquake it was a pretty dumb thing they did ..
