They showed him on the news this morning meeting with the Brazilian leader. Brazil has a very strong economy so Obama is working on ways to increase US exports to that country. Didn't see any golfing....unless he typically does it in a suit & tie?
Actually I just heard on CNN that this trip to brazil is the first stop of many the pres is taking because that economy is booming and we have huge exports to that part of the world and this trip is all about creating jobs for the US. I find it so interesting how two totally different tales can come out of one trip. Amazing! Now I realize how certain religions can read the same bible and come up with all kinds of different interpretations!
Unfortunately instead of the trip being about jobs jobs jobs, it will be about jobs, japan and lybia. Not to good for getting all that r and r.
Japan is a pretty different situation then Haiti. Not poverty stricken, and they have excellent resources on their own. So no, I don't think the level of help is quite the same. However, the International Community is in there helping out...lots of us. US included in that. It's all over the news here as well, with ways all of us can help out.
The situation in Libya...yikes. I have to say I think the Americans should be very proud on how your gov't has handled this. They have gone about it the correct way. The International Community will now be taking on that lunatic, not just the US. If you guys had gone in there independantly, it would have only served to fuel the terrorists putting you even more at risk. PR wise it wouldnt' have been any good either, and you folks could have found yourselves in another war. This way is better. We all go in together to help those people, taking you out of the hotseat. It is being handled correctly, through the UN. I just wish it could have happened sooner. But I am glad your President didn't rush into things..it would have been a mistake in my opinion.
It could well be that the nuclear reactor threat has in fact covered up any news of aid getting there . It has just seems so low key after the furor and aid Haiti got, which no one would say wasn't a good thing, . I dont begrudge any R&R he takes I guess I do begrudge the timing and the cost,.it.doesnt upset me and actually it doesn't surprise me .
I just wanted to add, that while watching idol the other night, you could diall and donate, just like they did before when there was a natural disaster. I think too the fact that 103 countries have come to the aid of Japan coupled with the fact of the story being covered over with the nuclear disaster, the coming together to aid Japan has been all but thwarted.
The UN just gave permission to aide Lybia, which is good, it is also good that the US is not in the forefront of this. Remember Irak? If we had gone in there, the pres would be accused of us being in everyones business or of being sympathetic to muslims again. He is in a lose lose situation no matter what he does.
Just like going on vacation, Fox news has crucified him for it. If I remember right he does have a family and as far as I can see everything on the homefront is being handled. I dont resent him getting a little R and R. I am sure at this point, with everthing that has gone on in his term, he needs it.
So, I guess I can think of bigger things to get upset about. Not worth me gettin m panties in a wad over.
I know people that have family that live in Haiti and the situation is very desperate there, one reason being that funds directed there were misdirected and not given to the people in need. Given that the former dictator there Duvalier returned I sense that he was trying to capitalize on some form of potential political collapse which has only been worsened by the earthquake and the cholera epidemic. The situation in Japan is equally tragic but the government does have some form of infrastructure to deal with it whereas the same might not be true for Haiti. I see both countries in need of (directed and temporary) assistance and follow up. I do think the United States however is overlooking the various revolts in the mid east which unfortunately if they are successful I don't see as leading to democratic governments and the current administration only became concerned after public pressure.
