Here's that drug thing....

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/turing-pharmaceuticals-ceo-martin-shkreli-defends-5000-percent-price-hike-on-daraprim-drug/

This guy says a 5000% mark up is not excessive.  Give him a 5000% pay cut.  Seems fair, since its not excessive.

Not sure on the cost to make but based on numbers given $9,000,000 in sales from this drug. Depending on the financials of the company would dictate if this is really needed or not.

I don’t understand how this can be legal. I can somewhat understand if it is a new Drug but that’s not the case here,

People don’t even try Price Gauging when we get hit by a Hurricane. They got busted all over the state for it back when Andrew hit (mostly Gasoline, Window AC Units, Generators Plywood etc.) Now people will turn them in for it, if they try So how can they get away with it?

I think if they can justify that the profits will be used for research then it might be legal or to sustain the company.

If I’m not mistaken. Research is funded by investors and grants.

Well in an article about this drug the CEO does say that $ would be used for research. Don't know enough about the medical field/research to say yes or no. Just know that it takes a lot of $$$$$ to get something into trial and approval by the FDA.

From what I've heard of the pharmaceutical companies, they get their R&D money from investors as RGlass said, then after they bring a new drug to market, they pay their investors back with sales of the new drug... not jack up the price of an old drug and use that to produce new ones...

This type of thing is happening with a variety of medications.  A couple of the ones I take on a daily basis have doubled in price; one quadrupled...

I don't care.  A 5000% mark up?  If they are using this money for research and development, they need to tighten the damned noose around the pocket book.  1000% is out of line... screw these guys.

This drug just "stuck out" to someone as there are many drugs that are greatly marked up - and all the CEOs say it's for research.

In the vast majority of drugs it's our seniors-  or the very ill that are dependent on them to live or function. Society doesn't care a lot about those populations.

5000% mark-up - ridiculous!
