Hillary Clinton hospitalized after doctors discover blood clot

Clinton sustained the concussion from fainting earlier in December. She had been sick for several days with the flu and had canceled a trip to Morocco where she was to officially recognize the Syrian rebels.
Brain injury doctors told NBC News said that although details haven't been made public, initial reports indicate that Clinton may have developed a blood clot in her lower limbs as a result of prolonged rest and inactivity after her recent concussion.
A deep vein thrombosis, known as a DVT, or a dural venous sinus thrombosis, could be two types of blood clots treated with anticoagulants, said Dr. Alex Valadka, a spokesman for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. A blood clot could be dangerous if it breaks free and lodges in a vital organ, such as the heart.
A deep vein thrombosis could be serious, but not necessarily life-threatening, and would require months of treatment with blood-thinning drugs, said Dr. Inam Kureshi, chief of neurosurgery at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn.
"Usually hospitalization is more of a precaution," Kureshi said.
It is possible that Clinton developed a blood clot elsewhere, including her brain. Doctors interviewed would not speculate about treatment or prognosis for the secretary of state.
Days after she fainted, State Department officials said she was at home recovering. Officials also issued a statement from Dr. Lisa Bardack of Mount Kisco Medical Group and Dr. Gigi El-Bayoumi of George Washington University that provided more information about the secretary's condition:
"Secretary Clinton developed a stomach virus, leading to extreme dehydration, and subsequently fainted. Over the course of this week we evaluated her and ultimately determined she had also sustained a concussion.  We recommended that the Secretary continue to rest and avoid any strenuous activity, and strongly advised her to cancel all work events for the coming week.  We will continue to monitor her progress as she makes a full recovery."
It wasn’t the first time Clinton passed out while sick with a stomach bug. As a U.S. senator representing New York, Clinton fainted in 2005 during a speech in Buffalo after complaining of a stomach virus.

I don’t understand how Medical Records were released from the hospital. It took an act of congress to get mine released to my wife for insurance,

No, earlier speculation said the leg, but information was released from the hospital that it is in the head. They said in most cases a blood clot resulting from a concussion is located in a place they cannot treat, but in this case, the fact that it is in the vein, located between the skull and the brain that they could treat it with blood thinners.

I wish her well.  Those kinds of things if found, are almost always very treatable.  It's when they are left undiscovered they can develop complicatiions.

The article says she had a DVT in her leg (most common place)...yet teko reported something different.  Did they end up elaborating on her case?

She'll have to be on probably Coumadin and Probably Lovenox (like Mrs. P mentioned) for a while.  The Coumadin will require frequent blood tests to keep her clotting times where they need to be.

She's a good lady...hope she gets home and well soon.  Hope Bill isn't getting too chummy with the nurses.  ;0)  (Sorry...had to...lol)

I can't help but wonder if we are even getting the real or rather the whole story.
Time will reveal the truth.

OMG...That was wayyy too close. Jason's mom passed away shortly after suffering from a similar blot clot in her head...She (unfortunately) had no idea. She had a migraine for a week and then by the time she went to the hospital, the damage had been done...She had a stroke that she never recovered from..She always had issues with her blood too after she had her right leg amputated at the age of 19. She was on Clumadin (I'm not sure how you spell it) and lovenoxx. Hilary is REALLY lucky...This time off is something she NEEDS..Her health is FAR more important that her job as of right now...

The clot is in a vein between the brain and the skull, above the right ear. No neurological damage or stroke has occurred. Once her medicine is adjusted to the right dosage and barring any other physical problems, she will be released from the hospital on the blood thinners. Sounds like a close call but they expect her to be fine.

I was really thinking she may run but after all these health scares, I think we might as well pit a fork in her...She's done.....Then again, maybe not!....To be continued....

Respectfully, Mrs. Clinton hasn't looked real well for some time.  I'm not even talking recently.  I don't think she's looked well in over a year or so.  Politics will do that to you.  I don't know of a single politician that aged well, ever.

I do hope the good lady makes a triumphant come back and is allowed to move on to bigger and better things. (But not a Presidential run, please not that.  I'd vote for Oprah Winfrey before I'd vote for the good Mrs. Clinton.)  Let's say its a trust thing.

I was thinking more of Bill's manner at other bedsides...and yes I can imagine she is a very feisty woman. I admire her to no end for putting up with that charming devil* of a hub *and* working in Government.

* I still admire he man's politics and intelligence.

When I think of Bill’s attempt at Bed Side Manner and Hillary, the Patient confined to bed, Scenes from the Exorcist keep running through my mind.

'She's probably faking that so she won't have to testify."  Gee, Mike, I thought the same thing.........

Truthfully, no I didn't, but I'm sure there will be those that do.

Personally, I, too, think she's been looking tired and unwell, for a while and I wish her a speedy recovery.

She has been looking very tired of late, even before she got the bug, and evidently she has had this problem before too. Only well wishes for her recovery.
