Obama administration faces full court press over scandals

http://tv.msnbc.com/2013/05/14/obama-administration-faces-full-court-press-over-scandals/

The Obama administration is on defense dealing with the fallout from three separate controversies: the IRS targeting of conservative groups, fallout from the September attack in Benghazi, and the Justice Department seizing Associated Press phone records.

“Admittedly it’s hard to follow all these scandals or screw-ups, however we ultimately characterize them, between IRS, the Associated Press, Health and Human Services [and] Benghazi,” said Congressman Todd Young, an Indiana Republican on the Ways and Means Committee.

Friday, at a House hearing, Young and his colleagues will question the acting IRS chief Steven Miller about the agency targeting tea party groups for increased scrutiny. For now, he’s not sure if a special prosecutor is necessary, although the Republican Governor’s Association is already calling for one. Young wants to know if someone directed the extra scrutiny or if this is a spontaneous response from the Cincinnati field office. The Indiana Congressman will also question the IRS chief about timing.

“Who knew what and when did they know it?” Young asked on Jansing & Co. “We need to get to the bottom of that.”

The White House is also dealing with the fallout from a Justice Department investigation. The Associated Press reports dozens of journalists had their phone records secretly collected. In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, the AP CEO writes it was a “massive and unprecedented intrusion” and “there can be no possible justification for such an overbroad collection of the telephone communications”.

Obama Administration Press Secretary Jay Carney referred questions on the scandal to the Department of Justice.

“Other than press reports, we have no knowledge of any attempt by the Justice Department to seek phone records of the AP. We are not involved in decisions made in connection with criminal investigations, as those matters are handled independently by the Justice Department,” said Carney in a statement released Monday evening.

The AP story, along with the IRS incident and continued interest in what happened in Benghazi, led some to ask if the White House has a crisis management problem.

“The President has to be asking himself, am I surrounded by the right people? Do I have people on my team who really are effective crisis managers?” said Ron Fournier from National Journal on Jansing & Co.

“I don’t see how it can’t, at the least, be a major distraction,” said Lynn Sweet, Chicago Sun-Times.

How about we just await for the facts to emerge before we go bodyslamming each other.

"...I'm thinking this story is still gonna change on all fronts...."

Yup. The Left is going to find a way to turn it around and blame the Republicans.

For instance, if an article was posted citing that it's the Republicans fault for blocking President Obama's IRS Commissioner appointees, then there will be a "full court press" to blame it on the Right, for not allowing BO to have a perm guy in there.

I'm just sayin'...

I heard someone say on television last night that our pres is up to his elbows in alligators. Yup, pretty much sums it up. However, Im thinking this story is still gonna change on all fronts.

It stops with him. His people reflect his judgement.. Even if he didn''t know it was going on, he should be running an administration where they know if they F*uck up, HEADS WILL ROLL..These people were so stupid. They obviously had no leadership. He needs to fix it. Plain and simple. No excuses are being made for him...at least not from me.

.Like I said earlier,

“The President has to be asking himself, am I surrounded by the right people? Do I have people on my team who really are effective crisis managers?”

He BETTER clean house and FAST!.....Unacceptable..."

I was thinking the EXACT same thing that Vance said... plausible deniability.

I don't think the President knew, but I have no doubt that people around him knew, and just didn't tell him. Now, whether or not he told them not to tell him, or they took it upon themselves to just "not mention it", we'll never know.

Vance... plausible deniability is the perfect word for what has occurred. I just hope that someone, somewhere, is able to tie it all together, and the truly responsible parties heads roll across the floor.

If a single auditor took it upon themselves, then their head should roll. Their immediate bosses head should roll. Their bosses head should roll. Their bosses head should roll. THEIR bosses head should roll. All the way up the line, until it stops just below El Presidente.

I was listening to the Glenn Beck show this morning and they were belly aching that "there was no way that the President didn't know about any of this".

I'll contend that it is completely conceivable that he didn't know about some of this, if not all of this.  Potentially, you could blame some of the appointees.  Potentially you could blame some of the President's staff for not keeping him "in the know" about things like this.

I'm just thinking out loud here, take a good look not only politics wide, but across the nation (the world perhaps).  To me, I see people who are operating without moral obligation and a lack of integrity.  I see people who believe that they are "above the rules" when it comes to modus operandi.  I see a lot of people constantly covering for other people.....

It's just where were at as a people and as a country.  This stuff in politics is nothing new and the unraveling has been long in the makings.  Some of it is more obvious now because you have "reporters" looking for anything fishy and some of those people are too eager to just get something on the news regardless of the factual content of their story.  Then you get either side playing into this....It's where we are.

Something is going to give and it is starting to look like the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dam.  It's a slow leak now, but its going to continue.  And this is exactly what happens when you run a scam for too long.  (Madoff comes to mind)  You eventually get caught.  Government has been the good old boy network for a long, long time.  It's going to come undone and the fraud everywhere will be exposed (not to mention all of the bodies in the empty lake bed).

I'm not exonerating the President in any way, as you're correct... "The buck stops with him", but in his defense, he WAS elected into a position for which he wasn't qualified.

How can you expect a community organizer to appoint people that are worth a crap? He wouldn't know a competent person if said person walked up and smacked him in the face.

He appointed friends, and past-colleagues, and people that put him there (whether they were worth a crap or not). Simply appointing, based on gender, or race (for the sake of "diversity") is a recipe for disaster. "Best person for the job" shouldn't involve racial & gender quotas. You end up with a diverse group of inept people, that'll eventually fail you (which it appears has happened).

No wonder it's finally come back to bite him in his behind.

Just thinking about this...so Obama picked a bunch of weak idiots? But it's not Obama to blame it's the idiots? Very poor argument.

At least he doesn't have to worry about reelection in 2016.

The President himself may not be inept, but the people around him sure seem to be.

Looks like they've really dropped him in the poop this time.
