Danger! Ann Coulter on Mobs, Palin and Being Ignored

http://www.popeater.com/2011/06/22/ann-coulter-obama-weiner-palin-demonic-liberal-mob/

She's back! Conservative (and controversial) author and columnist Ann Coulter has a new book out called 'Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America.' It's a delightful tale about a teenage girl from Washington State who falls maddeningly in love with a centenarian vampire who's totally dreamy and ... wait, you say that's 'Twilight'? Right! In 'Demonic,' Coulter sets out to portray American liberalism as the result of mob mentality and traces this behavior back to the French Revolution. As you can imagine she once again does not have kind words for the left, President Obama or Anthony Weiner. She spoke to PopEater (I know, right?) about the origins of the book, then slams conspiracy theories around Sarah Palin and admits to at least two things Obama has done right. And she has a theory as to why you don't see quite as much of her on this publicity tour.

"Danger! Danger, don't read this book!" is the usual reaction from the "liberal media" to her books, she says. "They've tried that with me through seven books and it hasn't worked, so they've turned from maligning me as counter-revolutionary to, okay, we can't do that so we'll just ignore her."

Tell me about this book.
I date the start of liberalism to the beginning of the French revolution. It began more with the idea of Democrats and liberalism being mob-like and I began by reading lots of books about mobs and group think. I go though the 200 year history of liberalism starting with the French revolution and how different it s from our own revolution including the fact that it did not end in a republic it ended in a dictatorship and yet it's the French revolution, bloody, barbaric, anti-religion that ends up being copied around the world not the successful revolution.

How is a liberal mob mentality different from say a tea party mob?
It is quite the opposite of a mob. It's like our American revolution which is a revolution that was fought by thinkers and debaters making arguments, erudite Christian sermons on why we should seek separation from the British, it wasn't emotional or excitement at the barricades. Similarly the tea parties what are they doing? They're reading the Constitution, there's no violence to come out of the tea party. That's very different from virtually any gathering of liberals where windows get smashed and vandalism is common and angry exhortations are calculated to rile up a mob.

What's your opinion of Sarah Palin?
The mob doesn't like her and they're very aggressive towards her. It really shows the myths that surround Sarah Palin are a great example of the psychology of believing anything. How Trig wasn't her child or at a Sarah Palin rally someone said, 'Kill him,' at the mention of Obama's name, all of this is nonsense, yet it's believed by the left who latch onto crazy conspiracy theories.

But a lot of conservatives don't like her either.
The blind hatred of Palin ... I don't know whether I would want her to be President or not but the blind hatred of Sarah Palin, you can't find among conservatives even for Harry Reid.

You get upset by what you perceive as the press's idolization of Obama?
Not particularly. I just cite it as evidence of another mob characteristic which is to turn political leaders into messiahs. I think hilarity would be more the emotion than upset. Going back to Andrew Jackson, father of the Democratic party, through F.D.R, J.F.K, R.F.K, and most recently Clinton and Obama. The way these liberals talk about these leaders, it's almost in shockingly, weirdly, hilariously superlative terms. They're The Beatles, they're Elvis, they're Jesus.

Don't you think the right have created a shimmering halo around Reagan?
He is the closest the Democrats could pony up which is why I specifically considered his case in my book and I went back and looked at eight years of newspaper reporting on Reagan and pretty much all the conservatives did was attack him through his eight years in office. They like him but they certainly weren't having sex dreams about him, they were not comparing him to Elvis or fainting when he gave a speech and he too was pretty good at giving a speech. Reagan wasn't even the most popular conservative in his first year of office. A lot of people who I think of as true blue Reaganites, they weren't on his team back then.

Which candidates do you like?
Chris Christie [New Jersey Governor].

But he said he's not running.
I won't believe him till the end of November. If he's still not running I'll vote for whomever the primary Republican voters pick. I would guess that would be Mitt Romney.

What do you think of Anthony Weiner?
Since writing this book every political story I see through the lens of mob behavior as I do with Anthony Wiener. In my lifetime you've seen similar (to the French revolution) attempts to lower the morals of this country from the Democratic party. I think they turned on him because it was going to hurt their election prospects. But they referred to Teddy Kennedy as the conscience of the Senate and John Edwards, it was plain as the nose on your face that he had an affair with Rielle Hunter and a child. The National Enquirer figured it out, you had the mainstream media suppressing it, refusing to believe it.

Do you really care about politician's sex lives? Does it really bother you if a politician has an affair?
Yes, I wrote a whole book on it, 'High Crimes and Misdemeanors.' It does make a difference, we should have people of elevated status. You need a moral people for freedom and democracy for the republic to work properly. When morals are debased you are going to end up with a different country.

Why do you think you engender such an extreme reaction?
I suspect because the liberal media's first reaction to a conservative is to kill them, to destroy this person as racist, sexist, homophobic ... Danger! Danger, don't read this book! They've tried that with me through seven books and it hasn't worked, so they've turned from maligning me as counter-revolutionary to, okay, we can't do that so we'll just ignore her.

What do you think of President Obama?
I think he's exactly the disaster I expected he would be. He's doing everything wrong. He won with the mob. The meaningless slogan, "yes we can." The mob just loved him.

Don't you think he's done anything right?
Sure, he kept Guantanamo open. He continued the war on Iraq. I have no idea why he's increasing the war in Afghanistan. I have no idea why he's interested in Egypt and Libya. Another example of the ready acceptance of contrarian thinking by the Democrats. They were hysterical about Iraq because it was a regime change and Iraq didn't hit us on 9/11. Well what are we doing in Libya and Egypt if not intervening for purposes of regime change and I promise you those two countries didn't hit us on 9/11.

I speak from experience.  Saying over the top garbage without thought is a giant mistake.  I've had to have tow trucks remove my foot from my mouth and my head from my a$$.

I've mentioned before that this is way more than part of the problem.  These political pundits have all of these great ideas, but few are solutions to our nations problems.  It is obvious that she has a dislike for muslims... even a hatred.  Part of me understands that a bit, but I'd prefer to judge people on their character.  Ofcourse, you can think someone is a nice person and then they go shoot up a school, blow up a building, or hi-jack planes.... not nice people....

On the other side of the coin, Coulter will sell plenty of her books and become more rich because of it.  Now, we have to decide if this is marketing ploys, complete ingorance, genius or a rancid combination of all of that.

I dont even know who Ann is, but if she is not a nice person, then she is not a nice person, but I am not going to wish death to someone just because they run their mouths.
Lots of people say mean and rotten things, or incredibly stupid things, but they are still human beings.
Sometimes its good to judge ourselves by our own words. Looking at the words we speak fom time to time we may find behavior that we didnt notice before. I have seen some things I have said on here and I thought (uh oh)
Words are so powerful and they can and do destroy people.
Some things I have noticed since looking at both sides (reading articles, MH, etc..).....
People on the right say some rude hateful things against Obama and his wife and his children. People on the left say some rude hateful things against Palin and her daughter.
The people on the left and right, both feel justified to rip apart another human being.
Most are not talking about the things they dont agree with, they are throwing in personal attacks against them, and at the very least adding insult whenever they have a policy to discuss. No one just says (I dont think we should raise taxes because.....), they say
(he/she) is an idiot, moron, blah blah blah. Why? Both are so full of hate and feel justified to be so. Why do people enjoy watching Palin or Obama be made fun of, torn down, their family picked apart? Both sides view it as justifiable. How can the right sit and laugh as a man is made fun of repeatedly? He has children and a wife that see this. He has people that love him. How can the left sit and laugh as Palin is made of repeatedly? She has a husband and children that love her. Yes both these people have put themselves out there, but when do we lose the respect we have towards another human being? I dont like a lot of things people stand for on both sides. I feel like people have become dirty fighters.
I dont know, I just feel like its really a shame.

Bbx, ok, love you, but have to defend my position.  Your right, it's wrong to say hateful things.  But I think it's different then what she did.  She said what she said for no other reason but that that girl was Muslim, and she has made it clear she doesn't like them.  I am saying what I say because of what she says and stands for.  I'm  no angel, and I think people that behave the way she does are way down low on the human evolution scale.  Same catagory I place racists, bigots, etc.  If I said I didn't feel that way, it wouldn't be honest...so hey, don't I get some points for saying what I really think?

Sorry, but she takes up space that could be better used for other things.  I don't hate her, I just wish she wouldn't speak is all.  She is a mean, nasty cruel person.  I don't say things like that about people too often, but I have to be honest.  Hey, I'm human...but it's because of the individual she is, not because of any group she is a part of.  I would say the same thing if she was left.

adgal,
I understand not liking what she stands for, or the way she acts,  but to say she is a waste of space is very hateful. Its apparent, if she made that rude comment to the muslim girl, then she feels the way about muslims as you feel about her. What makes one hate better than another?

Im inclined to agree.

I'm sorry but this women is a waste of space.  I just absolutely cannot stand her!  She was invited to speak at our local University here.  A young Muslim women (a student there) asked her a question about some of the comments she has made about Muslims.  Dear Ann was quite offended (not sure why exactly, the question was not rudely put at all) and told her to "ride her camel home".  Nice huh.  Somehow I don't think she will be invited to speak in Canada again anytime soon. What a piece of work.  As for her comments about 911...last time I checked Al Quada and the Taliban were basically headquartered out of Afghanistan.  So they sure as heck had a whole lot more to do with 911 then Iraq.  Her statement doesn't even make sense.  She has no class and nothing of interest to say as far as I am concerned.
