If a particular man was not involved in the pregnancy, he needs to remove his nosey a$$ from the conversation and let the adults involved make their own decisions....

So if God does not want rape but allows pregnancies to occur as a consequence, why does he not just stop the rape form occurring in the first place? Simple solution I would have thought.

See what I just posted on Mike's topic which is the same as this. As I believe it is not so much God, but Satan's temptation.

I don't believe in Satan, he wasn't a part of my religious upbringing as a child.

Freedom of religion means our leaders should not make decisions that interfere with freedom of belief.

An one with such strong religious convictions that they cannot keep the two separate should not run for office.

The Jewish View of Satan

By Ariela Pelaia, About.com Guide

Satan is a character that appears in the belief systems of many religions, including Christianity and Islam. In Judaism "satan" is not a sentient being but a metaphor for the evil inclination – the yetzer hara – that exists in every person and tempts us to do wrong.
Satan As A Metaphor for the Yetzer HaRa

The Hebrew word "satan" literally means "adversary" and in Jewish thought one of the things we struggle against every day is the "evil inclination," also known as the yetzer hara. The yetzer hara is not a force or a being, but rather refers to mankind's innate capacity for doing evil in the world. Using the term satan to describe this impulse is not very common though. (The "good inclination" is called the yetzer hatov.)

References to "satan" can be found in some Orthodox and Conservative prayer books, but they are viewed as symbolic descriptions of one aspect of mankind's nature.
References to Satan in the Hebrew Bible

Satan appears as a proper character only once in the Hebrew Bible. In the Book of Job he is depicted as an angel who mocks the piety of a righteous man named Job. He tells God that the only reason Job is so religious is because God has given him a life filled with blessings. "But lay Your hand upon all that he has, and he will curse You to Your face" (Job 1:11). God accepts Satan’s wager and allows Satan to rain all manner of misfortune upon Job: his sons and daughters die, he loses his fortune, he is afflicted with painful boils. Yet even though people tell Job to curse God, he refuses. Throughout the book Job demands that God tell him why all of things horrible things are happening to him but God does not answer until chapter 38. "Where were you when I established the world?" God asks Job, "Tell me, if you know so much" (Job 38:3-4). Job is humbled and admits that he has spoken of things he does not understand.

The Book of Job grapples with the difficult question of why God allows evil in the world. It is the only book in the Hebrew Bible that mentions "satan" as a sentient being. The idea of satan has a being with dominion over a metaphysical realm never caught on in Judaism. Judaism is so strictly monotheistic that the rabbis resisted the temptation to characterize anyone other than God with authority. Rather, God is the Creator of both good and evil and it is up to mankind to choose which path they will follow.

I believe in both actually and totally agree that this is dark forces at work. With that said, I still stand that we will each stand before him and will be judged. The judging is not ours to do. And the government needs to but out and lead by the law of the land over 100 percent of the people and let god handle the law of god.

I perceive  my yetzer hora (evil inclination) as something I need to deal with daily. For me, I know what it is...to see it in others it is much harder.
What may be evil for me, is not really so bad for a person in a different context.
However, there is a line that I don't cross. Some people are their evil inclination. They act on it. They surrender to it. I guess we call them psychopaths.
Thankfully they are the exception, at least in normal times.

Okay, here I go.  Just for the sake of playing 'devil's advocate (ha).  I have made it clear I'm in the middle of this issue and if push comes to shove, I would rather a choice for women than not.

But, whether you are religious or not, some do believe that it is a child upon conception and 'killing' that child is murder.  Murder is against the law.

Now, I'm not pro life but do believe it is a child upon conception.  This was not my religious belief but my experience as a mother.  What I felt and what is true to me.

Again, not trying to push any buttons.  But, perhaps that is where some right to life folks are coming from.

The moment one of my children was conceived I knew it. I cannot prove it, but it was shortly after, ya know. I said to my husband at that moment, "I am pregnant" I knew that little boy was within me when he was smaller than a pinhead. No science here, pure intuition. I trust my intuition, it has saved my life more than once.
I do understand the view. But life and our own individual journeys are simply too complex for anyone at the level of human to pass judgement or laws regarding this issue, imho.

I agree with you, and I have heard people say they believed life begins at conception, others when they were born and God breathed life into them. For me, having as many as I do, I felt the same things, but that is me and what I believe. I have also heard others that believe the science of egg and sperm unite to create baby in all animals of the earth. So it just goes to show that people have differing views. Based on those differing views I guess it makes sense to make everyone deal with decisions that life brings according to what they believe. In other words, simply the right to choose....

But, whether you are religious or not, some do believe that it is a child upon conception and 'killing' that child is murder.  Murder is against the law.

That's exactly it.  While pro-choice folks feel they are protecting the rights of the mother, pro-life people think just as fervently that they need to protect the rights of the unborn child.  It's quite simple.

To say "rape is a gift from God is just disgusting".  My views are also in the middle somewhere.  I do think a woman who conceives as a result of something like raper absolutely should have the right to decide how that pregnancy should be handled.  SHE will have the burden for the rest of her life (and the life of the child) to deal with all that.  Someone extreme about pro-life wants to protect that child, no matter what.

There will always be extremists on both sides.  This guy is a perfect example of that.  Politically speaking, Romney has already said he is for the right to terminate in this kind of situation...for what that's worth.

Extremists like to make bold statements...they're very much about shock value.  If he had said something that sounded more reasonable, it wouldn't have been as big a news story....he's no doubt celebrating that it's getting so much attention.  People would be better off just ignoring his a$$.

The decision to have a baby, use birth control have an abortion or not, should not be legislated.

These are personal and medical decisions.

BTW: Nobody wants to talk about the other consequence of limiting birth control, the over population of the planet. I wonder why that subject has become taboo ?

Rivll, (and teko)---  we have in common our experience of motherhood and how we felt about it.

My point is that for some if they believe it is a baby at conception and it isn't based on their religion, the idea of seperating church and state doesn't apply.  Then they are just working on the notion that abortion is murder and murder is illegal.

Again, I'm middle of the issue and if push came to shove would want women to have a choice.  I feel I need to keep repeating that so people know I'm just discussing the subject and not arguing the point to take away all choice for women.

I agree with you...but legislating mandatory contraceptives for ecological reasons would set off a fireworks I am not ready for...
When it comes to the point that the people have outnumbered the resources, there will be mass starvation and plagues and at some point someone may ask that question if we still have a sustainable planet and it will seem like common sense.
But right now, the world ain't going for it.

I am finished with the topic. It is very emotional for me the whole rape thing and I am worn out. I know how others feel. I respect it too. I just don't want the law to tell women what we can or cannot do with our bodies.
Enough already.

Abortion is an emotional issue for a lot of people and that is why it evokes such passion on either side.

Rape is a whole other story and always tragic.

To repeat myself, "The decision to have a baby, use birth control have an abortion or not, should not be legislated. "

No legislating birth control means both sides, don't tell me what that I have to use it or that I cannot use it. These issues are too personal to be legislated.

I do support easy access to birth control as a means to help limit population growth.

SM~ I hear this idea about people who believe abortion is killing if you believe life begins at conception. Yet, it can also be seen as an induced miscarriage.
No church that I've heard of performs last rites for a miscarriage. To me, that alone, says something, though it's never mentioned in the argument about abortion.

I hate a late term miscarriage at 19 weeks (one week shy of the cut off for a stillborn) and had our pastor at the time come to do exactly that.  I think it probably varies from religion to religion, church to church.

Hm.  Know many Catholics?  Certainly, chemical pregnancies may not but a baby that miscarries into the pregnancy of several weeks is mourned as if a child sometimes complete with a family prayer service.  And while calling a priest into the bathroom where a woman has miscarried her child due to a very early miscarriage might not happen, rest assured that priests are called and prayers are said often.

Do pro choice folks have any limitations to that choice?  When is it NOT okay to have an abortion if ever?
