"Gee, that's magnanimous of you."
And your sarcastic compliment is rather knightly but fully expected.
"Shines a different light on the kid and the family but it does NOT make it okay to be gunned down like that...."
Gee, that's magnanimous of you.

Here's something else. Shines a different light on the kid and the family but it does NOT make it okay to be gunned down like that.
It took an FOIA petition to get access to the video and the video speaks a lot louder than one witness. And I can understand the family's wishes but it really goes much further than just the immediate family.
Rather than focus on what happened - what we see in the video - you focus on the delayed outrage. And I get that.
Idiot is a correct term and will be used to describe those who are idiots.
You can blame this one on Rohm, he withheld anything until after his elections.
The police office has been charged and will be found guilty. That is the definition of justice, not protesting in the street.
I was aware of that but I am also aware that there was a witness and that his family was aware of what happened to him. But after reading futher into it, the family never wanted the video released to the public, they just wanted justice
The lawyers who represent McDonald’s mother saw the damning video in April and described it in graphic detail. “I agonized over this. I really wanted to let it go viral, but how would that affect the city of Chicago?” attorney Jeffrey Neslund told the Sun-Times. Neslund said that the family doesn’t want the video to be released, in fear that they “would see their neighborhood burned.” Chicago officials reportedly feared unrest as well

"The problem I have with this is, the people didn't start complaining until the guy was charged "13"months after the murder....."
They didn't have any evidence of what happened - because the police wouldn't release the video. It took a reporter to file an FOIA (freedom of information act) petition to get access to the video.
What surprises me is that you weren't aware of that.
The problem I have with this is, the people didn't start complaining until the guy was charged "13"months after the murder. He could have been charged 13 months ago If the people would have stood up then. It makes me question their sincerity.I can understand the trial being drug out because of backlog but not the arrest.
I went back to find it, he was killed in November 2014 around the same time this teenager was shot 16 times.

Thank you. I wonder what would have happened if this had been released when it happened?...last year? I think about the little boy in the park with a play gun who was gunned down almost before the police car stopped. 12 years old, he was a child. It is almost as if they saved this information so as not to inflame the people
Exactly 400 days after Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke shot 17-year-old Laquan McDonald 16 times, killing him, Chicago police released a video of the shooting. On the same day, Tuesday, Cook County prosecutor Anita Alvarez also charged the police officer with first degree murder.
Why did it take 400 days to charge him ?
Jason Van Dyke, the Chicago police officer charged in Laquan McDonald's shooting death, had a history of complaints before he gunned down the 17-year-old last year -- and in almost every case, he was cleared in one way or another.
The allegations mostly involve excessive force, and at least one complaint alleges he used a racial slur.
Maybe this is why people are protesting, It wasn't until the video was going to be released to the public, that Van Dyke, a dangerous cop, was finally arrested for murder.
The Chicago police are busy cleaning up the area where Obama is going to build his library (right next to a couple of already existing libraries as I recall)
This story is disturbing for a number of reasons. Both the cop and teenager involved had troubling recent and past histories, sadly it almost seems like the inevitable happened here. I also feel that this could have been prevented on both sides...
Vance, I think you bring up a good point; why is no one protesting about all the other young black people who have been killed this year in Chicago?
There was another heinous murder that happened in Chicago, less than a few months ago. A nine year boy was shot and killed due to gang violence, why aren't the protestors demanding justice for this little boy?
Dee also brings up an interesting point about the timing of this video/story being just released. Although I believe that they may have released this due to the recent charges being brought upon the cop ( Nov. 24th ~ 1st degree murder charge).
I think what it comes down to is that stories like this and the protesting that follows, fit into the Bad Cop Narrative.
Vance, I wonder why this tape has been released a year after it happened. Is it to get people riled up so that they go out and protest? I don't think they are idiots. I think they are people with strong feelings of right and wrong and the justice for this poor teenager. He was shot 16 times!!
The worst part for me is that I thought it had just happened, luckily my husband saw that it was a year ago. So I wonder about all of it but would never call these people idiots. They are out there in the cold and dark, standing up for someone who died. I really wonder at the timing of the release of this.
IDIOT: A person of profound mental retardation having a mental age below three years and generally unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive.
