In Ohio, Obama slams China, Romney

http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oG7hDwdXxQjyYAKyBXNyoA?p=romney%20slams%20obama%20on%20china&fr2=sb-top&fr=yfp-t-701-s

(CBS News) China has once again entered the campaign discussion as President Obama launched another round of attacks against his opponent Mitt Romney on his China policy and announced that he is filing another trade complaint against the country.

"Now, I understand my opponent has been running around Ohio claiming he's going to roll up his sleeves and take the fight to China," Mr. Obama told a crowd in Cincinnati Monday. "Ohio, you can't stand up to China when all you've done is send them our jobs."

The president was referring to Romney's time at Bain Capital, a private equity firm that bought companies and moved jobs to China. It has been a common attack on the campaign trail in an effort to smear Romney's time at Bain, although many of the outsourcing claims either happened after Romney's time at Bain or didn't happen exactly the way Romney's critics describe them. The Obama campaign renewed the attack Friday when it launched a new television ad accusing Romney of outsourcing jobs overseas and continued the barrage today.

The president also announced a new enforcement action against China for what it claims is illegally subsidizing exports of automobile parts. The administration says the subsidies totaled $1 billion and is harming American auto parts makers.

"These are subsidies that directly harm working men and women on the assembly line in Ohio and Michigan and across the Midwest... . It's not right, it's against the rules and we will not let it stand," Obama said. "American workers build better products than anyone. 'Made in America' means something. And ...when the playing field is level, America will always win."

This is the second complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) filed in recent months against China. In July, President Obama filed another complaint challenging the country for what it said was imposing illegal duties on $3 billion worth of cars and SUVs. That announcement was also first announced in an Ohio newspaper, the Toledo Blade, and was highlighted the same day at a campaign stop near Toledo.

12.4 percent of Ohio's jobs are tied to the auto industry, according to figures provided by the administration, and the state is a crucial presidential battleground state. Although both candidates heavily contest there, Ohio, is a state that President Obama has consistently held a slight advantage. In the latest Quinnipiac/CBS News/NY Times poll in August, Mr. Obama held a 6 point advantage over Romney.

When asked if the timing was political, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said it wasn't. "The president doesn't believe that we should delay these kinds of important actions merely because we're in the middle of a campaign," Earnest told reporters en route to the Cincinnati event.

Romney, who has said on the campaign trail that he will confront China on its currency manipulation, released a statement criticizing what he called election-year tactics. "Campaign-season trade cases may sound good on the stump, but it is too little, too late for American businesses and middle-class families," Romney said. "I will not wait until the last months of my presidency to stand up to China, or do so only when votes are at stake."

"There's actually been a willingness on the part of the Obama administration to resort to the WTO in other fields," Joshua Meltzer, fellow at the Brookings Institution told CBS News.

Since taking office, Mr. Obama has filed additional complaints with the WTO against China on the issue of the country's wind energy manufacturing and raw materials exports. The WTO sided with the U.S. in both instances.

But while campaigning in Ohio and Michigan, Mr. Obama has consistently highlighted the bailout of the auto industry, the increase of manufacturing jobs and tough talk against China - all things he did at his latest campaign stop.

He said his goals are "to export more products and outsource fewer jobs," he told the crowd. "I bet on American workers. And three years later the American auto industry has come roaring back."

As he began to inject his opponent into his speech, the crowd began to jeer. Mr. Obama responded with a line he's repeatedly used on the campaign trail: "Don't boo. Vote."

Mr. Obama also reminded voters that early voting in Ohio begins October 2, and said voting early leaves more "time getting other folks to vote."

I honestly cannot say, (because I in all honesty have not checked into it at depth), that Romney outsourced jobs. Honestly I cannot say that, however I can say with a fair amount of certainty that he has profited from outsourcing.

They had an employee from the company in the article last night on television. According to her, there are 3 places to actually work at in their community. She says that when this happens, it will help turn their little community into a ghost town. Now I don't know the facts, only what she said, and she also said that altho they took down the american flag, the rumor that they put up in its place a chinese one was false.

Romney has been running for president for 5 years now, so if there was any evidence of this, it would be long gone I suspect.

I also heard the 2,000 jobs being created by the car thing is more like 10,000. Per my husband, again I have not checked it for fact.

Now can you tell I'm losing steam?

The amount of jobs this is going to put into China is well above 170, Mrs P.  Why not open 6 plants here???  What is wrong with that?  It would provide a lot more than the 2000 your touting as wonderful and far more than you are being critical of at 170....

So they brought in chinese people and had the ones that are losing their jobs train them? Well, that bites real hard I'd say!

"MrsP... show me where Romney put 1 million people out of work."

He didn't because the President stepped up and bailed them out!....He said they should go bankrupt which would've put 1 million people out of work within the auto industry.....

So Brice you think its ok for 170 people to lose their jobs to China? You think Romney and his companies are right?

"This would cause".... So it didn't happen?  If it did it would have said did...  170 jobs.... look at all of the jobs GM's new money is going to produce in China.... 6 plants worth is probably slightly higher than 170, right?  That's probably just management jobs GM is shipping out, not to mention worker bees...

That's okay,  I have you loud and clear now.  Obama does it with tax payer money, its okay..  Got it, thanks for clarification on that.  If Bush did it, it would be bad, right.  I need to make sure we are on the same page.

"How is Romney sending jobs over seas?"

$8 million of his Bain capital invested funds owns 51% in Sensata technologies shares which is sending Sensata technologies the day before the election from Illinois tp China. This would cause over 170 American jobs to be lost and he could potentially make $100

"Is that some deflection regarding the GM scenario? "

No deflection..Obama does not own or have shares in GM..Besides GM workers aren't outside of GM protesting the fact that their jobs are going to be lost!!!!

How is Romney sending jobs over seas?  Is that some deflection regarding the GM scenario?  GM is clearly working with the Chinese to build GM auto plants in China....

I don't care if it's Obama, Romney or my momma.... we need domestic jobs and anyone sending work overseas is not doing their job here.  Jobs here, pants here, help the economy here!  That's all I care about.

So, we need to accept the fact that both Obama and Romney are in to giving jobs to organizations that are interested in cheap labor in China.  That is the one common fact here.... something that it looks like you are deflecting blame only to Romney when Obama can take some heat as well.

I wish either of them would commit to bringing our jobs back home.
The huge Bay bridge project being build near me has had all it's parts made in China. When something wasn't right, they had to wait for things to be corrected in China and shipped here.

The big corporations go for cheap labor. Romney represents big corporate interests at their worse. His Bain Capital closed down companies and he himself said he liked firing people.
Obama and DC in general are all in bed with Wall street.

I wish we had a candidate who would stand up for what's right but of the two, there is no way Romney can be trusted to do anything but further line his pockets and his cronies, the Koch brothers.

Obama doesn't have $8 million in GM that has shares of 51% in a sub company that is taking jobs from the American people and bringing it to China..Last I checked GM is adding 2,000 technical jobs right here in the good ol' USofA.....Yes he bailed out the auto company and saved jobs of American people while doing so. That is the point of this article..Tell me what you think of Romney saying he's going to create jobs but instead is sending jobs overseas and costing Americans their jobs...What do you think about that?

Whats equally funny is that how GM got bailed out and they are working with the Chinese to build auto plants in China... hysterical....
Obama is trying to say he is not a part of this.  We (he, I didn't offer to bail out the auto industry) loaned them (GM) money and they are working with the Chinese to build manufacturing plants...  That is rich...

The GM CEO brags about it... I posted a link yesterday... I can't find it today.  Its on youtube... look it up.

I luv you bard and I respect your post, however I stand by my judgement of Romney as a loser...Anyone who can run for office, claim he's going to create jobs but in the next breath is sending jobs overseas and costing Americans their jobs is a loser in my eyes.

It's fine that you don't like, or believe in him; you could just as easily have said that, as to call him a loser. Would have sounded a lot nicer and we'd have still gotten your point.
