And I certainly do not discount or disrespect your beliefs. Here is the issue though..can you imagine if they did not have this increased security, and another attack happened? I think that in this particular situation, your gov't is sort of darned if they do and darned if they don't. I agree that gov't is not the answer to everything, but I do feel that protecting their citizens is a huge part of their responsibility. There is no possible way to plug every hole, but they do have to minimize the risk. So we are back to that catch 22 I guess.
However, if anyone tried to implant me with a chip or a mark, I would take exception. I guess I just don't quite see the security issue as being the same thing. Like I said though, I am not at all disrespecting your belief system. So, I guess it's another issue we will just have to agree to disagree on :)
I guess it goes back to my beliefs. I believe we are headed towards a one world government because it was prophesied a long long long long time ago in the bible.
I also believe if you look at history, and look at other countries, the more control a government has, the less freedom the people have. What a perfect way to get people to give up their freedoms without a fight...just promise them safety...
What is that quote by some president (I think it was) that said it would be dangerous to give up your freedoms in the name of safety.
Government today promises if you give up your guns you will be safe.
Government tomorrow promises if you just let them put a mark or chip on your right hand or forhead..you will be safe.....
Both are Lies
I just keep reminding myself how great a job has been done since 911 in stopping these attacks. So far several have been attempted, but none have been successful. Not just due to gov't either...due to average people seeing or hearing something and reporting it.
I also have a hard time understanding the anger about the increased security at airports. Personally (and yes, we have the scanners and increased measures as well), I am just fine with it. Do what they need to do to keep everyone safe.
I do agree the world is changing and have no doubt many privacy issues and rights will be set aside. Sad that it's come to that, but that's how they stop and/or catch these guys.
I heard on the national news this morning that they are now down playing the possibility of a small aircraft being used as a terror attack. (Just two days ago they were saying it was a very real possibility.) In this interview this morning, they had a guy who ran a small airport and he was completely down playing the idea, but with a twist. The twist was that he was thinking that the small airport was going to be under attack and he dubbed that "hardly worth their while" because there isn't "enough gas on hand to really cause any damage".
After I heard this report, like a lot of reports on the subject, I kind of shook my head. Basically this guy was, without as many words, giving potential terrorists ideas.
YOU are Soooo RIGHT!!!!! These things will happen because the world is gong to be all under a one world government before long anyway.
In the meantime....look how many people believe government is their savior. Promise them a good life and they will sell their souls to a lie.....
Prophecy is being fulfilled.
Sleeper-Cells, lone-wolf, terrorist attack... It's inevitable that the US is going to get nailed in the very near future. As Brice said, there are just too many holes.
Quite honestly, the ATTACK isn't what scares me, as there's nothing we can do to stop it.
What scares me is how this country, our internal security forces, our government, and us as individuals, are going to REACT to the event.
Depending on the severity of the event and the source (who did it), I think we might very well see some Constitutional rights be set aside, or "circumvented" in order to secure the country.
Just rambling, sorry!
I'm in the security business. Being so, I am constantly thinking like a "bad guy" to find potential breach risks. Our nations borders are so, so, so big. There are gaps everywhere, and once you think you've stopped something, many more potential breaches show up.
By no means am I an expert in security, but I do take a very common sense approach. I watch law enforcement officials make mistakes all of the time that not only potentially endangers themselves, but the lives of others around them.
The problem with all of the security we have in this country.... it takes only one mistake to end up being a catastrophic event. Just one.
I am pretty sure I read somewhere a few years ago, that there are some nuclear type weapons already smuggled into the US.
It's just so easy for someone to get into the United States and Canada and stay without our knowledge. And the fact that drugs are continuously, successfully smuggled into our countries lets us know that weapons are smuggled in also. Sleeper cells & individuals are here, for sure, that mean us harm...Even though there is tight security, I think about sports events where there can be up to 100,000 people together in such a small area.
No doubt we have cells here. And we are weaker than we as a country have ever been. Ripe for anything to happen. I would not be surprised tho if the next attack came in the form of ricin or germ warfare..
I drove past the little airport over in Venice last week, where they trained some of those terrorist to fly a plane. Just a little rural out of the way , obscure airfield where they give training. It was eerie. Its still open too. I ws surprised actually.
We too have sleeper cells and they are scary. However, it seems that the biggest threat now comes from the "lone wolf" type. Yes, it is the whole world that has been changed. None of us will ever forget it, and I remember thinking...if this could happen to the US...the rest of us have no chance. I hope that the anniversary passes in a quiet contemplative manner so that those that lost their lives that day can be honored properly with no incident. May they rest in peace.
I think that our hypervigilance will open a door to a potential attack. As hard as we try to cover all bases, our opposition is trying to find a leak. I cannot remember who said it but I think it holds true... "in order to claim victory, one must know his opponant". I think we are still trying to figure that out.
I also feel that there are "sleeper cells" within the country that know us better than we know ourselves at this point. 9/11 changed this country and changed the world for that matter.
Well hopefully NOTHING happens....I watched a 9/11 special with my son JJ (5yrs) last night on Nickelodeon. His reactions to what happened where priceless. I could tell it touched him. Funny enough the only question he asked me after the special was over was if I thought the families that lost someone on that day are doing much better now..I said to him, I'm sure they are but it takes a while to get over something like that...Kids....So REAL!
We have sleeping cells all over this country. In my opinion, they are waiting till we have been hit hard with something....when we are weak..then they will attack.....for now they are living peaceably amongst us.
