You're a sci-fi fan. I'd have thought you'd remember that one from 'Dune'.

"Good government never depends upon laws, but upon the personal qualities of those who govern. The machinery of government is always subordinate to the will of those who administer that machinery. The most important element of government, therefore, is the method of choosing leaders."
Children of Dune
(This last, by the way, is one of the reasons I won't be voting in November for someone who 'can't remember' being a bully back in high school.)
I just have to wonder what is wrong with people. How many ways can you twist a horrible tragic incident at the hands of a madman to make your own political/religious point. And why on earth would you think it is ok to do so. Can you imagine how the victims families are feeling when they read something like this? That their loved ones have become political fodder? Makes me sick.
Thanks for the lesson of the day~the ghaflah has sure gotten thick.
Divide and conquer or polarize and conquer. Keep the people bickering and distracted with no time, energy, or will left to deal with the real issues.
"Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!"
The Arabs have a word or it - ghaflah. "the sin of purposeful misguiding, misleading or the deceiving of another, usually through falsity or by failure of full disclosure, through concealment, which keeps another in ignorance and heedlessness."

Also translated as "a fatal distraction".
If one were to use Louie Gohmert's logic, this wing nut Holmes was a God loving, God fearing Christian until a gay couple got married??? Or, maybe it was an abortion?
Bah.... this is exactly what I expect from our elected officials these days.
