Latest Wendy Davis strategy: Remind voters that her opponent is a paraplegic

Here is a picture of Greg Abbott, Republican gubernatorial candidate for the great state of Texas:

(see picture at website)

Abbott isn’t in that wheelchair for a sprained ankle. He’s been a paraplegic for the last 30 years.

With that fact in mind, here’s the latest press release from St. Wendy of the Fluorescent Footwear, following up on the recent revelation that she’s a big fat liar (emphasis mine):

***
We’re not surprised by Greg Abbott’s campaign attacks on the personal story of my life as a single mother who worked hard to get ahead. But they won’t work, because my story is the story of millions of Texas women who know the strength it takes when you’re young, alone and a mother. I’ve always been open about my life not because my story is unique, but because it isn’t.

The truth is that at age 19, I was a teenage mother living alone with my daughter in a trailer and struggling to keep us afloat on my way to a divorce. And I knew then that I was going to have to work my way up and out of that life if I was going to give my daughter a better life and a better future and that’s what I’ve done. I am proud of where I came from and I am proud of what I’ve been able to achieve through hard work and perseverance. And I guarantee you that anyone who tries to say otherwise hasn’t walked a day in my shoes.
***

Or in anyone’s shoes, for several decades now.

But wait, there’s more! Apparently there’s something called Annie’s List, which bills itself as “a diverse coalition of political professionals, non-profit executives, policy experts, former candidates and elected officials, major donors, attorneys and more, all dedicated to changing the face of power in Texas politics – and thereby combating the assault on issues of most importance to women and their families – by recruiting, training and supporting women candidates across the state.” Here’s Annie’s List Executive Director Grace Garcia responding to the fact that

Wendy Davis tells big fat lies (again, emphasis mine):

***
We’re not surprised Republicans have attempted to undermine Wendy Davis’ campaign by calling her past into question – we have seen similar attacks launched against women candidates before. The recent personal attacks on Wendy Davis and her family are blatant attempts to thwart her campaign and undermine her success. Just last week, the Davis campaign announced impressive fundraising numbers from donors in every county in Texas. Greg Abbott is running scared and for good reason.
***

And what’s the good reason that Greg Abbott is running scared? Wendy Davis can cure paraplegics? Is she claiming divinity now? At this point, that would qualify as humility on her part.

Now, let’s get something straight: These are gaffes. Not “gaffes,” as Davis’s defenders are trying to characterize her lies, but actual gaffes. She and her supporters aren’t mocking Abbott’s infirmity. Wendy Davis may not be the most, ahem, surefooted politician, but even she’s not that dumb.

But you can damn well bet that if the political parties were reversed, these gaffes would kick Chris Christie off every front page in the country. MSNBC would be running “pink sneaker in mouth” chyrons all day long. SNL would be crazy-go-nuts for Wendy Davis jokes. Hell, Letterman might even forget his weird Palin obsession long enough to make fun of Davis.

She’s a Democrat, though. She’s their darling, their Abortion Barbie. So even though she has no chance of winning, they’re running interference for her. She must be protected from herself. They’re scolding us for pointing out her lies and her bumbling ineptitude, because facts are sexist. Why, this is just more evidence of the Republican #WarOnWomen!

Oh, I have no doubt that what you say is true Teko.  She made herself a target by those with strong opinions the other way.  I'm just saying that she is by far NOT the only one that happens to.

I do just want to say that I do see this happen a lot. That if someone is on one side of the fence, those that support her believe that the 'other' side is out to get her for her beliefs.  It does go both ways especially on controversial topics like abortion.  If someone makes a huge pro life push, the media makes them out to be a monster just as those that are super pro abortion are not popular with those that oppose her.

This is politics.  I don't think anyone was 'more' out to get her than anyone else who has a stand on a controversial topic that half the population isn't fond of.  (or whatever the percentage is).

As I said I am speaking about a double standard. But hey the truth never hurt anyone so why not ignore it?

Are we discussing one Wendy Davis or Rand Paul> This article is about Wendy Davis. Or do you just want to argue about something> anything>

Double standard, as she stood to protect something she did not like and was praised by the left, yet Rand Paul stood for his beliefs and was vilified by the left for doing so.

The right just thought Davis was dumb, we/they did not make her out to be some evil person, like what was done to Paul.

She stood for 11 hours to filabuster aagainst a very restricive abortion law. I believe it did go ahead and pass ultimately, but ever since she did this, she has been on the rightwing media hate list. I think this link goes into what the law was that she was protesting.

I remember reading about it at the time and feeling like the time frame for abortion was too liberal.  I'll have to look it up to refresh what the details actually were.

I guess I called her this Wendy chick because that is my sister's name.  Ha.  I'm not sure why but that gives me this familiar feeling with her like she is one of the 'chicks' we hang out with.  And we do call ourselves chicks.  Sometimes we call ourselves chicas too.  Probably only a man would see that in a light that was negative.  Or maybe not and it is just all my years of girlfriends and WE all live in a bubble.  ??

I'm just saying--------  I'm already tired of Wendy Davis.  And her opponent.  I can't imagine how tedious this stuff is for those that live in Texas and have to hear it all the time.

I am not impressed or turned off by her years of struggle.  We all have our own story of struggle.  Things like where she stands on key issues is much more important to me and she is a huge pro choice advocate, no?  And I'm sure many are aware that I have mixed feelings on that subject.  I want protect the right to abortion but do see the need for limits on it.  I gave the example of where she stands on abortion because THOSE are the things that the media should focus on----  where she stands on things that could affect others.

(like abortion after 20 weeks . . .  NO thank you,.)

You really should look a little deeper on this. That is the screaming headline but there is a lot more to the story.

You wanna have an intelligent conversation where we examine the policies both these people stand for or do you just want to post the sensational talking points that fits one or the others agenda?

How do you expect anyone to respond to the bias trash. Post something where we can all learn together and compare. If yer just posting bash, yer gonna get bash.

"I'd rather know her politics and what I'd be in for if she were voted into office"

What a novel concept!

But, that's not what Democrat voters are all about. It's got nothing to do with what their politics are about.

It has EVERYTHING to do with whether or not they're a Democrat. That's all that matters. Get a Democrat into office at any cost, whether they're qualified or not, no matter their politics.

Case and point: Wendy Davis & Barak Obama

I just read what I wrote above.  LOL.  I sound all tough girl.  I really don't know Wendy but remember some of the things happening in Texas regarding abortion recently but vaguely.  And I threw the two together.

I do kind of hate the public relations part of politics (now, talk about when you were a single mom Wendy.  Lots of single moms out there.  Try to get them to see you as one of them . . .") because it does really come down to how they are going to govern/legislate for how it will affect people.  Lots of single moms are anti abortion, for example, and she would not be a good candidate for them.

This all makes me glad that I don't live in Texas (anymore).  I can't stand this dumb back and forth that goes on between politicians.  And absolutely, voters are hypocritical when it comes to their own candidates they prefer to those in another party.

I personally don't know much about this Wendy chick other than she appears to be really hamming up her youth and milking 'her story' for votes.  Yep, go Wendy.

I'd rather know her politics and what I'd be in for if she were voted into office.  (like abortion after 20 weeks . . .  NO thank you,.)

"You both make me ill. "
Try Phenergan.

As for "Texas is a Republican state" check out the election returns from 2008 and 2012 and see the large blue areas around the major population centers like Houston, Austin, and Dallas. As the rural areas become comparatively depopulated you should learn how to say 'Southern Democrat'.

I'm sorry if you feel I'm a bully. I'll try to work on that.

Do you know who wrote the article?

"smells of desperation"? Are you kidding me? You're freaking delusional.

Texas is a Republican state, and always will be.
This idiot, Davis, doesn't have a snow-ball's chance in hell.

You know why?

Because of people like you. You and she are EXACTLY alike in your beliefs. She is a bigot and a bully, not to mention an unconscionable LIAR.

And because a story is written about her that poor little you doesn't like, suddenly it's a witch-hunt of the highest order, and the Republicans are at fault for putting false stories of her out there?

A Lefty/Liberal wrote the article. Go see for yourself. And it wasn't under the instruction or direction from Team-Abbott.

And TEKO... get a life. "consider the source"? This isn't where it was originally published. I'm fairly certain it was AP where it first broke.

Both of you are delusional for thinking that Davis is anything more than a LIAR.

But go ahead and support her. Give her your money. Give her your votes. Please, by all means...

She made fun of someone in a WHEELCHAIR. And both of you think that's A-OKAY?

You both make me ill.

Ok so instead of calling out the people making fun of someone who is handicapped you turn it around on that person and the media for reporting it?

Want to confront her on issues...fine she will lose to a bag of rocks. She is far left and Texas will take 10 steps back.

But again instead of calling out the people for bad behavior you point the finger at the source. BIAS ALERT.

Hatefest is all it is. Consider the source and the agenda. Pretty much sums it up. Like I said, its a campaign to mop the floor with her any which way they can, all because she dared stand up to em. Go Wendy!

Only Hate Media would pick up on something like that, fixate on it, then go so far as to put it into print. Another example of how they can't confront her on the issues so they resort to semantics and innuendo. It smells of desperation and I like it.
