Limbaugh suggests Obama Is packing the supreme court to Repeal the Constitution!

Monday June 28
By Kate Conway

Today's Supreme Court news offered multifaceted excitement for Rush Limbaugh, who started out his show by pouncing on the court's 5-4 decision in McDonald v. Chicago, handed down today. Rush appeared happy about the ruling, which determined that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments. He was particularly gleeful that the decision referred to cases shortly after the Civil War that, he explained, upheld the rights of recently freed slaves to own guns. Rush stated that owning guns allowed newly freed slaves to protect their rights against Democrats, who, supported by the Ku Klux Klan, wanted to lynch them for voting Republican. Things haven't changed much, he concluded: If you don't vote Democratic, you still face consequences. Rush wasn't thrilled by everything about the ruling, however: He declared that if the Supreme Court were really following the Constitution, the vote would have been 9-0. The four dissenting justices, he claimed, were voting against the Second Amendment itself.

Rush also spent time lobbing ridiculous attacks at Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, whose confirmation hearings began today. Rush repeated the falsehood that Kagan compared the National Rifle Association to the KKK, and he referred to a conservative talking point about Kagan's lack of judicial experience, stating that Kagan is a "blank slate" because she "is" Obama. A vote for Kagan is a vote to repeal the Constitution, he claimed, because Obama's appointments are designed to achieve that end. Rush asked how Kagan could have become dean of Harvard Law School without publishing anything, then attacked her abilities and appearance by speculating that she achieved the position because she's in a "clique" and reminds people of Lou Costello. Rush also claimed that Kagan got "slam-dunked" today by the Supreme Court's rejection of an appeal by the Obama administration -- and signed by Kagan as solicitor general -- to take a case involving the tobacco industry. Once the hearings began, Rush rounded out his absurd attacks by mocking Kagan's serious expression and stating that she was wearing Democrat "infidelity blue," which, he explained, is the color wives of unfaithful Democrats wear at press conferences.

Other notable inanity from today's show included Rush's unabashed distortion of Obama's remarks at the G-20 summit: Rush said that Obama told the G-20 he believes no nation should have an advantage over another, and that this means Obama -- whom Rush called the "architect of chaos" -- wants to cut the United States down to size. Rush also claimed Obama wants a single world currency -- an utterly false interpretation of Obama's actual statement that "the United States welcomes China's decision to allow its currency to appreciate in response to market forces." Rush found time to throw in a falsehood about the BP oil spill, claiming that the U.S. has refused aid from other countries. He also found a number of excuses to refer to Vice President Joe Biden as "Bite Me" by recounting a conservative smear du jour involving Biden's visit to a custard shop.

Here are some highlights from today's show:

Echoing right-wing myth, Limbaugh claims "we all know" Kagan "would have voted against the Second Amendment"

The Senate approval process is nothing new.  Both sides of the aisle have done this.  I must wonder why someone would state that the Republican have no right to oppose it.  They certainly didn't feel that way when Republican presidents were in office.  This has been going on a long time.

All our representatives have a duty to try to make sure that the nominee is an acceptable choice to those whom they represent.  And yes, the politics involved in it do get dirty.

Here are a couple of good links to explain the process and to illustrate past filibustering in re the supreme court:

I watched an interesting debate on this exact issue last night.  It was on Larry King Live and he had representatives from both sides.  From what I gathered, it would seem the GOP is attempting to block her approval?  And someone brought up that really, they have no right to do this as it is the President's choice.  The approval process is something new?  And really should be just a formality?  Is this the case in truth?  It was also brought up that many on the left are not exactly thrilled either, as she is considered very moderate and the person she is replacing was very left.  However, the standing theory from the left seems to be that this is just another attempt to block anything Obama does.  If that really is the case, this is getting a bit old, at least from my perspective.  You just watch, come election time he will be accused of not accomplishing anything...and much of it will be due to the fact he hasn't been allowed to due to the constant barrage of No's.  I wonder (and I think they will) if Independant's will take that into consideration in 2012..especially if Republicans take the house in Nov. (which I expect they will).

I agree with Margy.  I also believe Obama to have an agenda.  Please keep in mind that as dean of the Harvard law school, Kagan banned the military from recruiting on campus.  She was overturned on this by all 9 Supreme court justices.  She has no judicial experience.  Only education and litigation.  She was also a professor at the University of Chicago at the same time Obama was.

Supreme Court, along with all courts,  was intended to INTERPRET the law, not make it.  Read the Constitution.  Any judge who wishes to make law is in the wrong branch of the government.  The Constitution is NOT  a living docurment.  It should not be pulled and twisted to suit political purposes.

And Supreme court packing is not a new phenomenon.

Some presidents have been involved in having appointing nominees to the Supreme Court to promote their specific agenda. F.D.R. was accused of "court packing" to name one. I just would think that saying that Obama wants to overturn the constitution is a bit extreme to say the least and I'd have to read on each nominee and their ideology and qualifications as directed stated by them or from other court decisions they made as to whether that is true.

Media Matters, polices and discloses, fox news for their anti obama rhetoric.

Conclusion is, if you dont listen to Rush, you dont know if its true or not.  So listen and then decide.

Yes, it is that ridiculous and this is why I cannot stand Fox news,

Amanda:  I don't listen to Limbaugh.  And I don't trust anything from Media Matters.  It would be about like me posting something from the John Birch Society!  Same difference in my mind.

I'd just like to see independent verification.  And Plume as in pen could be correct!

What the heck is going on?  People are moving beyond stretching the truth to just plain making things up.  Has everyone gone plume crazy?  Is hatred of Obama so strong that some will do anything to get him out?  I know there are many who disagree with policies legitimately, but some of this stuff is just insane!!

Again, a writer from Media Matters.  My already stated opinion of their having little validity stands.
