I'm well aware of Charlottes web and in fact know of a friend of a friend who is working with the strain right now.
Exciting news !
Sorry OH.
I know you do your home work so I didn't mean to paint you with such a broad paintbrush.
If anyone would bother to research it they'd see that different strains of marijuana yield different results. The strain that seems to reduce the frequency and intensity of childhood seizures is called "Charlotte's Web" (http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/07/health/charlotte-child-medical-marijuana/) and it is a specific strain of marijuana.
{"...The marijuana strain Charlotte and now 41 other patients use to ease painful symptoms of diseases such as epilepsy and cancer has been named after the little girl who is getting her life back one day at a time.
It's called Charlotte's Web.
"I didn't hear her laugh for six months," Paige said. "I didn't hear her voice at all, just her crying. I can't imagine that I would be watching her making these gains that she's making, doing the things that she's doing (without the medical marijuana). I don't take it for granted. Every day is a blessing."
Matt added, "I want to scream it from the rooftops. I want other people, other parents, to know that this is a viable option."...}
I don't have a problem with marijuana used for medical purposes and if it helps a child not have seizures, it should be available to them.
Apparently the high CBD content is what is curing these kids with seizures. I don't think marinol is in the same category..
There's a form of marijuana in pill form... it's called MARINOL (Dronabinol). I was put on it when I lost 40lbs as a side-effect of taking another medication.
The side-effect of MARINOL, is that it gives you the munchies and MAKES you want to eat. Gained the weight back slowly, and stopped taking it.
Makes me wonder why they went all-out, and went the actual marijuana route, instead of trying MARINOL first.
It's available in pills/capsules, so I'm sure it could be crushed up and put in a spoon of peanut butter or something the kid would be happy to ingest.
There have been a few incidents like this. I say if it helps, it should be available, period!
It cannot be any more dangerous than the side effects that other drugs do.
