The Middle East is such a complicated, seemingly unresolvable state of affairs. The World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and the United Nations have all said that the Palestinian Authority is capable of running its on state. But, this year the Palestinian government faces a $300 million budget shortfall. They rely upon 'foreign donors' (I wonder who) and tax and customs revenues collected by Israel on its behalf. The Palestinian application for statehood at the UN will fail but, the bid will cause severe damage to peace negotiations. Palestinian President Abbas says that a Palestinian state must have borders in place before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war when Israel took control of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Israel will not give up certain obtained territory that it needs to defend itself....and so it goes on. President Obama knows it would be political suicide for himself and the Democratic Party not to support Israel. The current administration continues its peace efforts as President Obama meets with both Israels' Netanyahu and President Abbas today.

I realize that there are those that base us protecting Israel based on biblical principal. While I agree that we are allies of Israel and should remain so, we should also not go to protecting them even if they are wrong. Allies is one thing, condoning what is going on if it is not the right thing to do is another. I agree the pres has no workable room in this area.

Piers Morgan interviewed Ehun Barak last night (former Prime Minister and currently in charge on defense of Israel).  He said that all this talk of Obama not supporting Israel is untrue and that Obama is probably the President that has done the most for supporting peace between Israel and Palestine.  I'm not using direct quotes here as I cannot remember exactly how he worded it, but that's close and same message anyway.  He certainly did not go as far as to say that the current Prime Minister was wrong to reject the two nation idea under the current circumstances or anything, but did say that Israel supported Obama's thoughts for the development of a Palestinian state.

As for the reasoning behind US and the other free countries supporting Israel?  I highly doubt it has anything to do with religion.  Israel is the only non Arab country in that part of the world, and it's critically important to NATO security and interests to have them remain safe.  It's the only truly friendly stronghold there.

In my opinion Perry was way way out of line with the comments he made at this particular moment.  Things are tenser then ever between Israel and Palestine with the Palestinian President asking for Palestine to be recognized.  US is blocking that (as they should right now, Hammas is still a big part of the picture) but Perry took what is a pretty serious situation for the entire world right now and exploited it for political gain (trying to win the Jewish vote).  Personally, I think it was rather appalling. He made a bad situation worse, and if anything created more tension.  He should have waited. It wasn't the time or place.

Does anyone know what the Israelis and Palestinians are even fighting about anymore?

I'd be willing to bet that very few people KNOW what the conflict actually IS.

I do I do.

Land, plain and simple.  Palestine has been there a very very long time.  Israel decided it was their peoples chosen land (in the mid 70's I believe) and just went in and took it.  United Nations backed them and recognized them.  Mecca and Jerusalum are considered religiously sacred by both the Jews and Islam and both want it!  They have been fighting and bombing the heck out of each other ever since.

I don't like Hammas as I see it as a terrorist organization, but I feel sorry for the Palestinians as well.  They have literally been occupied for all that time.  They refer to it as an occupation, and they are right.  The methods in dealing with it could be handled better though.

Yes...there is a land issue...but also...the Palastinians dont want the Jews to exsist at all.
ITs a very long and confusing thing to try to answer. All is in the bible.

True that many in the Arab nations call for the wiping out the Jews altogether.  You know what's interesting...Islam and Judaism are very very similar in their belief system. They both believe in God, they both believe Jesus was a prophet, but not the son of God.  Customs are similar too.  Dietary restrictions are close, both believe in women covering their hair, I could go on and on.

I hope things get settled there.  Still, I do believe Israel should work with the 2 nation plan (it would seem they agree to that) as honestly..how would any of us feel if someone suddenly moved into our country, took it over and claimed it was their promised land.  And all the powerful countries backed them.  I'd be ticked.  And that is essentially what happened.

Well too bad. Jesus was a Jew and we are adopted jews, right bb? Correct me if I am wrong but I was always under the understanding that blasphemy was considered to be unbelief in the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Correct? bbxx? Off topic I know, just came off the top of my head.... lol

Jesus was a Jew, and believers are grafted into the covenant of Abraham.
If you look up blasphemy, there are lots of examples of it.
The Jews blasphemed when they rejected Jesus. Speaking against God is blasphemy.
Woshipping another God also.
Speaking against the Holy Spirit is the only unforgivable sin.

Jews believe Jesus is a false prophet.
I dont know what God they worship because they rejected Jesus as Lord.
My God, has chosen the Jews, but the Jews rejected him, becuase the only way my God could be their God is if they accept Jesus as Lord...God the Father, Son, Holy Ghost...all the same...three in one.

Since they rejected Jesus, and Jesus said,  “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” or you saying they reject God or doomed to Hell?

See, this is my whole hangup when it comes to organized religion.  I don't 'believe it's in how you pray or what your name is for your higher power.  I don't think it makes one bit of difference if we attend Church, Mosque, Temple or other regularly or never.  I personally feel we are all judged as individuals by whats in our hearts and by our actions.  Organized religion has been the cause of more killing, terrorism and horrible acts (and I mean every religion) then anything else in history.  Why can't we just let each other be and not be talking about being damned to hell or anywhere else.  None of us really knows until we pass....and they aren't talking!

R Glass...
There are Jews that get saved. Not all will be saved, but a remnant will accept Jesus. Look at the new testament...some Jewish followers of Christ.

Adgal...I dont believe in organized religion either. My faith is very personal.
As to the same God....I can not accept that. I believe if I pray to my God..the God of hte bible,  he hears and answers. The bible is very real to me and true and God says there is no other God but HE...and the only way to know him is to believe Jesus is Lord...no other name. To accept any other name or power as equal to my God is blasphemy. I do have assurance I will be in heaven when I die. I am very thankful for that.

Sorry bbx, I mean no disrespect, but I don't think anyone can truly know his intentions.  We just all do the best we can.  And I 100% believe that we do all pray to the same God.  We just all do it a bit differently.  I believe that as firmly as you believe what you do.
