Oil falls below $97 on ample supplies

http://news.yahoo.com/oil-falls-below-97-ample-205530762.html

NEW YORK (AP) -- The price of oil fell another 1.5 percent Wednesday on higher U.S. supplies of crude and weak demand for fuel.

Benchmark U.S. crude for December delivery fell $1.44 to $96.86 a barrel in New York. The price has fallen 5 percent over the last week to its lowest level since late June.

Brent crude, which is used to price international oil used at many U.S. refineries, was down $2.17 to $107.80 per barrel.

The U.S. Energy Department said in a report issued Wednesday that oil inventories rose by 5.2 million barrels over the past week. That followed the government's report released Monday that showed a 4 million barrel increase in crude supplies for the week ended Oct. 11.

Gasoline inventories decreased by 1.8 million barrels, but supplies of both oil and gasoline are at the upper range of their average over the past five years.

Demand for fuels fell 1.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

Oil analyst Jim Ritterbusch said in a report Wednesday that the market looked "oversupplied" because of rising U.S. production.

Another factor in oil's recent decline, analysts say, is reduced risk of supply disruptions out of the Middle East — and a possible return of more Iranian crude to the global market — as talks between Iran and the West over Iran's nuclear program have re-started.

Meanwhile, the national average retail price of gasoline fell less than a penny to $3.34 per gallon. Robust supplies and falling crude prices are expected to push gasoline prices lower in the coming days, possibly below this year's low of $3.29 per gallon, set on Jan. 2.

In other energy futures trading on Nymex:

— Wholesale gasoline fell 6.5 cents to close at $2.552 a gallon.

— Natural gas rose 3.8 cents to close at $3.619 per 1,000 cubic feet.

— Heating oil fell 7.4 cents to close at $2.923 a gallon.

"Rhody" (lol). Well, I sure wouldn't mind visiting again! Especially now that I'm older and wiser (g).

People don't know what they're missing if they've never been out to see the Beavertail lighthouse. New England coast at it's finest. (I should work for the tourism bureau, ha) And the mansions in Newport, well, unreal.

Some pics I found online

Last time I was in RI was, many, many years ago. A trip to Misquamicut beach, followed by a trip to the pockey in Cranston!---back in my drinking days, 20+ years ago.

My great grandfather was the Commander of the torpedo station in Newport during WW2. He retired after WW1, but was called back to duty during WW2.
Joined the navy when he was 14 yo, served on a sailing vessel.

We used to camp at Burlingame state park when I was a kid.
I can remember my mother making sure we always brought back bittersweet to dary and hang for decoration every time we were down that way

My woodstove is up and running now, a few snow flurries blowing in the air today.
