Who'd a thunk it?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/26/kabul-attack-american-killed_n_980709.html

I was going to say that I found that above story interesting, but I don't.  Am I the only person in the world who didn't see this coming?  I know that not all of the Afghans hate us, but the majority do.... so how do you weed the bad ones out?  I'd guess you can't.  If the CIA isn't figuring this out, who is?  I always thought the "I" in CIA was for intelligence....

In a time when we are questioning people who are Americans, why would we not be ultra selective when employing foreigners that traditionally hate everything that America stands for?  I just will not get this.... this is not about being racist.  This is just about the facts.  Are there no Americans that are willing to fill this guys post?  What did this guy do to prove that we was worthy of the position?  If you and I were going to go to work with the CIA, I'd bet we'd have to go through a battery of tests and background checks.....  I mean, we even have infiltrators within our military now..... what a nightmare!!!!!

Respectfully, I'm going to disagree just a little bit with "a good thing".  There are a very few people over there who have a very open mind about what the west is and have heard what the west has to offer.  There are people in villages over there that never had medical treatment before, some never had potable water near by.... we came over and gave them that.  But it is those things that seldom make the news because feel good stories don't sell as many newspapers as tragedy does.

Back to agreeing with you, the over whelming majority of people over there do perceive this as an invasion.  Honestly, I probably would too if I were as uneducated as these people are and have been force fed all of the B.S opinions that they've been fed.  None of those people have ever even had a taste of what it is like being in the west, and most never will.  This type of disgust is bred into these people. This hatred is amongst and between their own people as well, but America is a tier or two above that.  Most of these people hate simply because of tradition.... the different tribes have been warring for centuries over there on simple, force fed beliefs.

Some of these people, if given the opportunity to actually open their own minds and think for themselves would understand what is really going on.  Some will not because the hatred is so ingrained.  WE could do a million things for these haters, and they still would not trust us.... it is just bred into them.

Take a look at the majority of the immigrants from the middle east that have come to this country and yours.  They have come to understand that they now have rights to think for themselves.  They have rights to practice their religion of choice without persecution.  They understand that if you work hard, learn all you can, that you can make a prosperous life for yourself, if not financially prosperous then on a intellectual level.  Then of course we do have some that cannot assimilate to life here, but most do when they arrive or shortly there after.  The ones that do do become productive members of society!

Changing the topic just a little, my youngest son took a trip into Mexico a couple of years back to build a couple of homes in a very poor, poor region of that country.  After working for a few hours, my son and his American friends got to play soccer with the kids around there.  These kids didn't have shoes, we wearing old and tattered clothes.  Some didn't have the opportunity to go to school even, just because they were so poor.  My son was heart broken for these kids..... just devastated!  The American kids started gifting their clothes and things to these kids, because they had nothing.  My kid gave away shoes and a few t-shirts.... even one of the adults went to a near by town and bought a bunch of toys and flip-flops to give out to the kids.  My son realized that if these kids were given the opportunities that he had been given in life, the majority of them would be great people.  They'd help their neighbors, take care of one another.... but they are simply too broke to really take care of their own, but they do somehow manage.

Some of those people, mainly the older adults saw this church group, who was there to build a few homes and dig a few water wells, as some kind of invasion.  They had a preconceived notion that we were there to take something from them, rather than to give something to them.

This is the very same mentality of the middle east, but it is so much deeper there.  The mentality is just so ingrained, as I said, that we could do a million things for them, and they'd assume that we were there to take from them.  It is what it is, and we won't change that in this lifetime or probably the next.

I reread my post and want to clarify my comments a bit.  As much as I (like most people) dislike war in general, I do understand that sometimes it has to happen.  And in the case of Afghanistan, as sad as it is, I know the invasion was necessary.  The Taliban was just as bad as Al Quada (and very interlinked). It is one thing to hate the west, quite another to attack the US, and there was no question that is where the 911 attacks originated from.  I have no doubt that had that attack not happened, they would have attacked you again.  I just get frustrated with all the "they were so happy to see us" propoganda.  Like they were all standing there clapping and excited.  We got all of that here too as Canada was in Afghanistan from the beginning, and our news seemed to always be trying to convince us how happy they were.  As yet another suicide bomber attacks yet another military base.  We lost men there too.  I get that that is part of war, I just wish that our politicians and media didn't treat us like we were stupid and try to tell us what a good thing it was.  A necessary thing..yes.  A good thing...I don't buy it.

The whole situation is just so out of control, it's impossible to know now who is the enemy and who isn't.

There was so much propaganda around these wars...how many people besides me has read a million times how "grateful" the Afghani and Iraqi people were that the US (and in Afghanistan, Canada as well) were there.  No they aren't.  They see it as an invasion.  The current gov'ts are happy (who are also incredibly corrupt, I have no doubt) cause they now have power.  But the people?  To them it's an invasion.  They hate the west...the ones that don't tend to get out and come west.  They are dirt poor, and groups like the Taliban and Al Qada are brainwashing them from birth about how evil the west is.  Sure, some are grateful or happy, but the majority?  I doubt it.  Truthfully, the only thing I find surprising is that more soldiers haven't died in these wars.  It's so sad.  I feel so heartbroken and sad for the soldiers and their families.

Oh yeah, and I just saw on the AOL front page that we are going to leave them billions of dollars of equipment and built bases because of the cost of bringing all of that stuff home.  So, me being the fortune teller I am.... I see us back in Afghanistan, probably less than 10 years after a complete pull out, and we will be fighting the Taliban who will be properly equipped with US Military Issue equipment.....

Just to point a few things out...  Who originally propped up Bin Laden?  Who propped up Hussein?  Who propped up the Ayatollah?  I'm sure there are a few more, but the answer is us.  Anyone we've propped to to take over a government, we've had to go back and run them off again.

This all goes back to history repeating itself.... unless we start to do things differently, we can only expect the same outcome.  BOHICA Baby!

Not sure why a message wouldn't come through....  But yeah, this is very much reality for our soldiers.  How do they assume who is and who is not going to open fire or be rigged with a bomb?

I've got a buddy who is a private contractor of sorts who has worked with our government.  I don't know exactly what my friend does, but I've seen him in photos with real high ranking officials within the military.  He sent me a 75 second clip of a convoy coming into a check point in Afghanistan, somewhere.  This was "our" military and our military vehicles, so the soldiers at the gate, it is assumed by their behavior, that this was going to be a routine thing.  As the convoy got to the gate, an improvised explosive detonated on a fuel truck..... devastating.....
