You hit the nail on the head.
" It's almost like backwards racism"... that's what this Bake-Sale was all about.
It was to show, in a simple way that everyone could understand, that white people in this country are seen as "rich", by the other ethnic groups.
White people can afford to pay more for things, because they are rich, so why not charge them more for everyday items... such as Bake Sale items?
It's a misnomer that all white people are rich, but I can see how one might think that.
Take you for example... I'm not at all surprised that you grew up thinking that white people were rich, given the environment (neighborhood) you grew up in, and what you were exposed to.
Nail hit on head;-)
It's funny, I'm married to a white guy and he's not rich..lol..I'll be honest as a child I did actually think white people were rich. My mom was a single mother of 4. She held down 2 jobs and took care of us the best she could. We had the necessities and sometimes we'd get extras. Because we lived in an apartment and my mom didn't drive the best looking car and I didn't always have the newest sneakers or whatever, I would see the white kids that I went to school with and they would have those things plus a nice big house and back yard so naturally I thought they were rich. Funny how for me it wasn't because they were white, it was more because more white kids had the "better stuff" than me and a majority of the other black kids that went to my school with. It just goes to show that it boils down to numbers. The stats Mikesmom shows that there are more whites that make more money than blacks. In no way do I think it shows that whites should be punished or automatically put into a category that isn't always true. It's almost like backwards racism...(I hope that made sense..hehe)
A most astute observation, Brice my friend...;-)
Can't get anything past you!!!
Satirical comment, I think....?
What I want to know is, what is the government doing to get more money into black households?
Those figures are a travesty.
Black families deserve to have just as much money as white households.
What REALLY needs to happen?
The playing field needs to be evened out. The "extra" money that the white households have, should be redistributed to the black households, so that's it's more even.
Problem solved.
According to census figures for 2008:
17.7% of black households had an annual income of <$15,000
6.6% of white households had an income of < $15,000.
The median income for black households was $39,879.
The median income for white household was $65,000.

I always laugh when people think that all whites are "rich". Here is a statistic that may shock those that think that, the race with the highest poverty level is... white! And yet, white people are supposed to be the rich ones, while the others have the lower income. I'm white and my family lives in a low income neighborhood. It's what we can afford. I moved out to be closer to school and my apartment isn't the best, in another city that isn't the greatest, but it was within my price range. Stereotypes will probably always be around, whites being rich, asians are bad drivers, and so on. I just find it funny that people look at me and assume I have a lot of money, when I have paid for everything I own on my own and am pretty much broke. lol.
That is a good question... "Why is it a detriment to be an Anglo American?" It goes back to how Anglos have been portrayed throughout the history of this nation, I believe. I also see this as the same distrust and disgust that the middle east has for the west.
It runs a lot deeper than that. What I'd love to hear is someone who has a general dislike for "whites" to voice their opinion. As with most racist ideals, they are ill thought and under informed or completely ignorant, perhaps all at the same time.
It is hilarious but, 'brings to light' a shameful, unconstitutional practice. The reaction to this 'bake sale' by the establishment reveals the 'political correctness in overdrive' policies of our government. Where is our freedom to voice our feelings, views, and opinions. And, I also want to ask the question. Why is it a detriment to be an Anglo American?
Ah, I don't see this as racist either Mrs. Pincince. I do see it as the current state of affairs, or how the current state of affairs is perceived by some. Some believe that either by race or birth rite, that they are somehow entitled to pay less for certain things.... I'm not sure how they come up with that.
I'd love to have the 54" plasma t.v. to watch football on Sundays, but I cannot afford it. And guess what? I am white.... I know, how dare I not be able to pay the $5,000 for the t.v. and be white at the same time.
I am fully aware of the fact that numerous previous decisions have gotten me in the situation I am in today. (Honestly, I kind of like it....) Not for a second do I think a plasma t.v. or a cookie should be priced higher or lower for me. Neither is a necessity or a basic need. It costs what it costs, and that is the end of the conversation. We all pay ridiculous prices for fuel, and if any of you suckers is getting it at a cut rate because of race, gender, religion, etc.... let me know, because I am willing to convert.
Pretty much sums it up I think. Someone tell me about class warfare. Just cause Im white dont mean I got any more money than a brownie or a blackie. But I guess thats my fault cause if Im white I got no excuse for being poor right? Always did fry my butt just to think about it. Thank god I am a woman! But if I had been a man my wages would have been higher and I wouldnt need the discount for being a woman.
I think it speaks volumes myself!
The colleges did this before, called affirmative action, letting race be a factor in college admissions. Are they trying to go back to this again?
I think the bake sale is great, which it really makes a good point. It's supposed to make people uncomfortable and does a good job of it since so many people are angry/upset over it.
OMG I saw this. I don't see how it's racist. I think they are trying to highlight that this is how future colleges will make their decisions..Am I wrong?
Now this is just funny;-)
AWESOMELY funny!!!
