Second Destrehan HS teacher turns self in following sex allegations
A second teacher from Destrehan High School has turned herself in following allegations of a sexual relationship with a male student.
A spokesman for the Kenner Police Department confirmed that Rachel Respess turned herself in on Wednesday.
The Sheriff's Office said an additional incident in another jurisdiction is under investigation.
When Kenner Police Chief Mike Glazer was asked if he would describe it as a "three-way tryst," he answered yes. Glazer also said police are investigating rumors that video may exist of one or more of the alleged sex acts.
Shelley Dufresne, 32, of Montz, and Rachel Respess, 24, of Kenner, each faces one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, indecent behavior with a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. One was the student's teacher in 2013; the other was his teacher this year.
Respess surrendered Wednesday morning accompanied by her attorney, and investigators say her statements were very similar to what the alleged victim told police. One of the alleged sex acts with the teenager happened in Respess' home on West Esplanade Avenue on the night of Sept. 12 and into the next morning, according to police.
Dufresne was arrested Tuesday in St. Charles Parish on one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile for an incident in Montz. She posted $200,000 bond and was released under house arrest. She was re-arrested Wednesday in Kenner for her alleged involvement in the September sexual encounter involving Respess.
Both suspects were transferred to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna.
The St. Charles Parish School District released the following statement Wednesday:
As soon as the school system was alerted to the allegations, an investigation was immediately conducted and the Sheriff's Office was notified. The school system has been fully cooperating with the Sheriff's Office throughout the investigation and is being advised by our attorney. Since arrests have been made, the teachers are currently suspended without pay. According to ACT 570, Louisiana law does not allow for suspension without pay until an arrest has been made. This matter is a personnel issue and confidential, therefore no other information will be discussed.
