RNC’s Florida Latino Outreach Head Turns Democrat, Citing ‘Intolerance’

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/05/rncs-florida-latino-outreach-head-goes-democrat.html

A recent study from the Heritage foundation criticizing the cost of the congressional immigration reform bill did not get a rousing reception from Republicans from the start, and now it has cost the party a key operative. Pablo Pantoja, the RNC's head of Latino outreach in Florida, wrote in a letter Monday that, because of the study and its author's past racist writing, he felt the GOP was too steeped in intolerance for him to remain a member of it. The study's author, Jason Richwine, wrote in a dissertation: "No one knows whether Hispanics will ever reach IQ parity with whites, but the prediction that new Hispanic immigrants will have low-IQ children and grandchildren is difficult to argue against." He's left the foundation, but the damage is done.
In his letter, first published in full Monday by Florida Nation, Pantoja wrote that he was "taking a stand against this culture of intolerance." On Richwine's dissertation, he wrote:
Although the organization distanced themselves from those assertions, other immigration-related research is still padded with the same racist and eugenics-based innuendo. Some Republican leaders have blandly (if at all) denied and distanced themselves from this but it doesn’t take away from the culture within the ranks of intolerance. The pseudo-apologies appear to be a quick fix to deep-rooted issues in the Republican Party in hopes that it will soon pass and be forgotten.
The implications here are big: The Republican Party, knowing it needs to win over Latinos and other minorities in order to become competitive again, launched a big push to do so in six states. And, within a month, the guy they asked to head up a major part of that job quit not just the post but the whole party because of its intolerance. Adding insult to injury, he switched over to the Democratic Party and made a contribution to the ACLU, "for the efforts in helping protect the rights of immigrants and civil liberties in general."
Richwine, meanwhile, has no regrets.

I still think the message, and the way it's conveyed, needs to dramatically change (as far as the GOP goes).

Not saying the message is wrong. On the contrary. I believe in the Right's ideology and direction.

I just don't agree with HOW they're presenting said ideology.

That said, it's a little difficult for the Right to get their message across accurately, when the Left-leaning media distorts and disparages them at every turn.

I know, I know... crybaby (beat you to it, Mike).

The GOP needs people like Rubio, Cruz, Jindal, Love, Carson (as minorities) to get out and tell others why the GOP is the party they should be alligned with. The values, the hard work, dedication, the help up the GOP provides. Don't let the left dictate the debate on this.

I'm with you on this.

I think the GOP pandering, and putting a puppet-Hispanic in front of Latinos, and expecting them to just all of a sudden switch teams, is a little on the condescending side.

I think the GOP underestimates just how good a job the Left did/does/has done, in reference to "advertising" to the common Latino. They've put themselves out there (the Left) as the "Party of the People", and Latino's have jumped on board.

The GOP won't get the black-vote, nor the Latino-vote, in it's current form. I'm not saying they need to change their ideology, but they need to change the way in which they present their message. Pandering won't work, as is evidenced by the above article (although I stand by my earlier comment, that they guy was most probably NOT a "real" Republican/Conservative to begin with).

1 person wrote an article and this chump takes it out on the whole party? I'm with EL, I don't buy this guy was ever an R.

71% for Obama...I wonder why? Maybe it has to do with his skin color? And maybe it has to do with liberals being accepting of criminals?

Turnout of hispanics was 71 percent for Obama. Do we really think they will vote for the republicans that think of them in this manner? Another 47% mark is not wise.

"....That's tantamount to a gay person just one day waking up and becoming straight....."
"Sorry. I don't buy it..."

So you're just faking it?

I figured that - not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you.

No REAL Republican/Conservative will ever just "switch teams" and magically turn into a Democrat/Liberal.

That's tantamount to a gay person just one day waking up and becoming straight.

There are too many fundamental differences in ideology to just "switch" teams. Sorry. I don't buy it.

I would questions whether the guy was a "real" Republican/Conservative in the first place, or just a puppet the GOP placed in order to try and vote-get.
