Romney's VP search down to three

http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/08/13180408-first-thoughts-the-final-three?lite

Romney’s three VP finalists: Pawlenty (the loyal outsider), Portman (the insider), and Ryan (the crusader)… GOPers are currently split over whether Romney should pick Ryan…

*** The final three: We can say with a high degree of confidence that Mitt Romney’s vice-presidential pick has largely come down to three men: former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. And it’s more than possible that Romney has already made up his mind. All three VP finalists bring something different to the table. Pawlenty is the loyal outsider, who would enable a Romney-Pawlenty ticket to run as former governors vowing to take on Washington; Pawlenty also potentially would add some blue-collar appeal to the ticket. Portman would be the insider, someone who knows the ways of Washington and who could help govern starting on Day 1. And Ryan would be the crusader, who wants to substantially transform America’s entitlement programs and who would excite a good portion of the GOP’s conservative base. Indeed, Ryan has emerged a VERY REAL possibility, but he also brings the most risk. If Romney selects him, it’s more than conceivable that the dominant campaign discussion in the fall won’t be the economy -- but rather the deficit and Medicare. Of course, there was already a good chance the Ryan plan will get plenty attention regardless of Romney’s VP pick.

*** Bold vs. cautious GOPers divided on Ryan: Politico writes that Republican observers are split on Ryan. “Ryan advocates, including some of his colleagues and high-profile conservative elites, believe Romney will lose if he doesn’t make a more assertive case for his candidacy and that selecting the 42-year-old wonky golden boy would sound a clarion call to the electorate about the sort of reforms the presumptive GOP nominee wants to bring to Washington. Call them the ‘go bold’ crowd.” On the other hand: “Their opposites, pragmatic-minded Republican strategists and elected officials, believe that to select Ryan is to hand President Barack Obama’s campaign a twin-edged blade, letting the incumbent slash Romney on the Wisconsin congressman’s Medicare proposal and carve in the challenger a scarlet ‘C’ for the unpopular Congress. This is the cautious corner.”

Who would you rather?

It was a quick giggle moment, nothing more.  But it WAS funny.  It was also funny when Obama said 57 states (had this canuck confused for a few moments though..lol).  Politicians are just people, they misspeak all the time (and don't we all).  Perhaps part of the problem is that there is this expectation they be perfect all the time?  If so then there are always going to be let downs.  The small gaffs are part of what makes them appealing and human.  It was funny though...ha.

Laughable.....  It is "misspeak" when the President says something like "57 states" and stupidity when anyone else does it?  Biden would be excused as well..... double standards, double standards.

Why couldn't someone say that the campaign trail is long and hard and in some of the confusion from lack of sleep, sometimes someone says the wrong thing?  Instead.... "that guys an idiot" or "this guy can't get anything right".........  Come on people, we can do better than that or maybe we can't.  Maybe that is why we are stuck where we are.....

Actually Obama made the exact mistake when introducing Biden. I don’t see it as a Big Deal. http://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2012/08/11/flashback_obama_introduces_biden_as_next_president

Now, if he'd said, "this is Paul Ryan, the next President of these 57 United States" THAT would have been funny!!!

Uh-oh... He made a mistake! We better tear him a new one Teko!!!

(read this like it's being said by a 9-year old little girl)
"Like O-M-G... Did you just see Mitt Romney introduce Paul Ryan as 'President' instead of introducing him as 'Vice President'? Like, what is Mitt Romney thinking??? Did he introduce him that way, because he really WANTS Ryan to be President? Do you think he actually thinks Ryan is RUNNING for President, and THATS why he said that? Like O-M-G... thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Like, like, like, that's stoopid."

Ryan is who he chose. On television right now. Not a very diverse crowd I noticed.

Looks like it might be Ryan

You got the confirmation correct.

"Ryan's selection - as well as Romney's own nomination - will be ratified by delegates to the Republican National Convention that begins on Aug. 27 in Tampa, Fla."

Well, I guess the mystery will be solved tomorrow morning.  He is going to announce it.  I'm watching CNN and they seem to be betting on Ryan.

I have a question on this if I may....I know there is no question that Romney is the candidate, but isn't he supposed to confirmed at the convention or something like that?  Or is that basically meaningless.  I just remember the last election with Obama and Clinton and they convention was the final decision?  Or am I not understanding?

It will be the guy from Ohio is my bet. Romney is needing Ohio badly and in his way of thinking, Portman is the way to get it. I hear the Koch brothers already have a team in Ohio as well, spending that cash.

Sorry, can't vote, because it's not factual.

If these WERE indeed the final 3, it would be all over every other news agency in town.

Once it's set in stone, who the finalists are, then maybe I'll vote.

None of them make the card for me.  I don't know if there is a guy out there that would solidify a republican vote for me.... as it stands now, a write in candidate will be getting my vote.

I don't believe that these 3 really make the final 3. Maybe Ryan but not the other 2.
