Its dumbfounding. A tour bus will stop about 10 feet from a herd of bison and allow all of the occupants out to take a photo. As the bison move out of the road way (because they now feel pressured from people) the idiot tourists follow, snapping pictures and not paying any attention to the animals body language. (It doesn't take a genius to figure out when an animal like a bison is getting aggravated.)
It's more dumbfounding that tour guides don't step up with some guide lines to keep their charges in line and safe. People will be people though and they will ignore all of the information given to them, throw safety out the window, in order to get a pic or get closer. When they do, you often get this. It's kind of rewarding..... This may be sick, but its a dream of mine to actually see first hand, some a-hole getting gored by a bison.
I haven't had the pleasure of making it to Yellowstone, but we used to have moose come through our neck of the woods when we lived in Iowa and of course, we have bears here in FL. I had the distinct displeasure of meeting up with a bear one day at one of our remote water treatment plants... if you think I got close enough to take a selfie with him, you can certainly think again... lol I very carefully made my way to my truck and got the heck out of there until the electricians I was waiting for, arrived and they went back to the water plant with me to make necessary repairs. A couple of the electricians were hunters and they tried to track the bear, but it had left the area. Fine with me...
It's sad. I don't know if you've ever been to Yellowstone, but there are plenty of warning signs regarding the wildlife and the potential of something going real bad, real fast. But as soon as some idiot sees a moose (its been a while since a moose kicked someones butt), bison, elk, bear.... they lose their minds and pretend its a petting zoo.
Maybe there is something wrong with me, but I like it when an animal gets even.
Oh my goodness... I guess people really ARE that dumb, aren't they?
I have a healthy respect for all animals, both domestic and wild, because if crowded, they can all do unexpected things, but wild animals are just that - wild and they have no way of knowing what that selfie (or the camera, for that matter) is all about...
