I think its only seen as a difficult issue because people are expecting a simple solution. All of the solutions being discussed are related to guns and not people. As long as we keep avoiding the problem it will continue to exist.
(When it boils right down to it, if guns weren't available there would still be murders.)
Just today or earlier this week in Oklahoma, a guy killed 5 people with a knife. Did anyone hear that in the news? If you did, how many times? Same amount of people as were in the military murders and that was on tv hundreds of times... still is for that matter.
The anti gun crowd does not see all murders as equal. Gun murders are their concern. If they cared at all, they'd speak out on this particular murder and all you're going to hear is crickets.
Its by design.
It’s against the law to carry a gun in any bar in Baton Rouge but as you can see, thugs don’t abide by the law, during the summer I don’t carry because it is too hot to conceal it. I keep one in my truck and they keep 2 pistols hid behind the bar. I do carry during winter. There is a maidenhood bar that is kind of like a trashy version of Cheers everybody knows each other; I’ve been going there over 20 years. I don’t drink much any more but I like to visit my friends and laugh.
It's such a difficult issue Brice. I understand what you are saying.
Here in Wyoming, guns are not allowed in bars. Its against the law. Criminals don't care about the laws. Take this gentleman who returned fire, for instance. He is a convicted felon and it would be illegal for him to be in possession of a firearm.
I know everyone around here has had enough of me talking about guns, but this case stands as another perfect example. Do you think if you created more laws regarding felons and firearms that this guy would automatically become compliant with the law?
This is a people problem. We are talking about a whole group of people who lack many essential life skills and turn to guns for a solution. "I don't have the ability or patience to work this out, so I'll just shoot the *******."
We're not going to change that. The whole criminal mentality is "XXXX the Police". These people don't care about laws, they don't appreciate life and they feel entitled to do what they want. White, black, brown, yellow... it doesn't matter. Criminals are all raised in the same culture and that culture perpetuates crime. Crimes are how you are measured. Jail time served for crimes are a badge of honor.
How do you change people who don't want to change?
Hi Glass. That is a little scary being so close to home for you (literally!).
Let me ask you this since you live right where this happened, how do you feel about guns in establishments such as bars?
