Newt Gingrich wins South Carolina Republican primary

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/abc-projects-newt-gingrich-winner-south-carolina-primary-000512837.html

COLUMBIA, S.C.-- Newt Gingrich has won South Carolina's Republican presidential primary, making this the first time in history a different candidate has captured a win in each of the first three presidential nominating contests.

ABC News has projected that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will come in second place, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum in third, and Texas Rep. Ron Paul in fourth.

Romney appeared to have won the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, but after a final, certified tally of the votes, completed this week, the state Republican party declared late Friday that Santorum actually won the first nominating contest. Romney did win the New Hampshire primary on January 10. A Gingrich win in South Carolina would almost certainly mean a longer primary season than initially anticipated for the Republican Party.

Im not sure if Romney can do the mean back in your face to Newt. It doesnt look natural on him and maybe he needs to have his so called super pak do that. Maybe Santorum will be waiting in the default line. This could go on forever! All candidates are blowing wind. Check out factcheck.org on the honesty of their claims. All liars, some worse than others.

I had to laugh tho because this one famous line of Newts that says Obama is the foodstamp pres? NOT! It was actually Bush! Yes I swear! All they do is lie and distort. All of em

I was listing to a Utah radio station this morning on the way to work.  Might have been Beck. (I know, I know.)  He and his cronies were talking about the "best candidate to not be nominated" and bestowed that title on Gingrich.

I listened just long enough to get that info and found it interesting.  I don't know who he is propping up, but it apparently ain't Newt.  (Not that it matters who Beck is voting for.)

I just saw an ad put out by the Romney campaign and I gotta say, I am impressed. He maybe turning it around somewhat. The housing disaster hit florida really really hard and lots of people have suffered as a result. The fact that Newt got money from fannie and freddie while common people were losing their shirt is not going to play well here. Not at all. If Romeny keeps with that theme and doesnt do anything else stupid. (We will know more after the nbc debates tonight I think!) I think these debates will set the tone here. Mittens has more money and can put out more ads here and there are those who will tell you, florida is won by the ads and their 30 second messages. I do believe that. So right now, the ball is in Mittens corner, lets see what he does with it.

I think you've pegged it pretty well in regards to what is happening right now.  MItt has clammed up and Newt is standing up for himself.  (I am not a Newt fan, nor a Romney fan.)

What I do think will happen is that some on the right will see Newt standing up for himself and think he has a lot of fight in him, compared to Romney who seems to be in full retreat when things get difficult.) As far as either of these dolts being able to beat Obama... I don't know if that is something I'd brag about.  It just proves to the world (since this nation won't admit it) that we are screwed somewhere between fighting for and keeping our rights and becoming a welfare state.  For some reason, a good chunk of the country see's that we can have both, but those people aren't being listened too.  That is the wonderful system doing what it does.

I would only add as a possible plus for mittens. Before they got here the early voters have been out and have already voted. This process started before gingrich had his miraculous rebirth of a week ago. Those 200.000 votes will go to mittens favor I think and may be a good buffer. We will see.

Yes I do. I could be wrong but it has moreso to do with Romney coming off weak and putting his foot in his mouth at every turn he takes and Gingrich is the total opposite and is throwing his weight around. (Most of us know Gingrich is nothing more than an old windbag but to people younger than me, they may not be aware. And right now there is a lot of anger and hatred out there and gingrich is fueling it. So if things stay as they are and Romney does not start using his money to shine the light on Newt, its a done deal and may throw mittens out of the running. I seriously look for someone else to enter the race as I dont think either mittens or gingrich can beat obama and they know it.

"You do realize that florida is home for alot of teaparty nitwits dont ya? Of course he will take florida"
Are you saying, you think Gingrich will take Florida? You're from there so you have a better insight than me.

You do realize that florida is home for alot of teaparty nitwits dont ya? Of course he will take florida, the seniors are in love with Mittens tho if the are republicans. But mittens is acting like the cowardly lion of late and Newt is beating his chest as we all expected him to do. Im looking forward to him imploding as he usually does. He gets so full of himself that he starts saying some pretty radical stuff. But then it is the radicals that are voting for hm it seems.Or the ones that dont know his history. He is yet to be vetted so it will be interesting.

If Gingrich takes Florida, Romney should get very concerned, even if it is close.
Florida, much like La. is a very diverse state. I’ve worked in Pensacola and Jacksonville. I have been to Daytona and Miami a few times. To me all 4 of these cities are very different from each other.
So, if Gingrich takes Florida, it will give us a better feel for where he actually stands.
I think his new found popularity stems from the fact that he has proven that he is a fighter and going for the jugular doesn’t bother him at all.
This is a characteristic that is lacking in all of the candidates including Obama.
Maybe S.C. was sending the message “we tired of talkers and want a fighter.” A little time will tell.

If Gingrich does get the nod, he almost assuredly hands the election to Obama.  With that said, I'd like to know how we'd be better off?  What wonderful things are happening now?

No, I don't think Newt could win.  Santorum would be a disaster.  Romney isn't great either but more electable than those two.  But then again, look how people have voted in these three polls.  yeesh.

Well if they run this idiot for president, he wil ensure Obama gets re elected. So I think the dems are much happier with this turnout than if Romney had won it. I dont know what is going on with Romney, he sort of is falling all over the place to get out of the race lately. lol

Keep your eye out for a third party as I would imagine the Republican party is scurrying around looking for someone else. The tea party agenda wont fly far this time around. Even his own pary cant stand newt.

But truly...there is no way that Newt Gingrich could become President right?  Folks worry about Obama creating a dictatorship?  This man gives me shivers right down my spine.  He seriously scares me. Not sure why, he just does.

and it will go on for several more months....... I believe Aug is the Republican National Convention......  then once a nominee has "won", the battle will be on between he (safe to say since Bachman is out) and Obama.......

Near the end of Jan, election will be Nov 6 (first Tues in Nov?) - 10 months of this........ then we start the "blame game" all over again.........
