Tagg Romney: I Wanted to 'Take a Swing' at Obama During Debate

http://news.yahoo.com/tagg-romney-wanted-swing-obama-during-debate-071348490--politics.html

Tagg Romney, the eldest of Mitt Romney's five sons, said on Wednesday that he wanted to “take a swing” at President Obama during Tuesday night’s debate, BuzzFeed reports.

Speaking on a local North Carolina radio station, Romney was asked about hearing “the president of the United States call your dad a liar.”

“You want to rush down to the stage and take a swing at him,” Tagg said jokingly, according to BuzzFeed audio. “But you know you can't do that because, well, first because there’s a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because that's the nature of the process.”

He continued, saying the Obama campaign has set out to make his father “someone’s he’s not,” but he acknowledged that they have to “sit there and take our punches.” Before the debate, he said, his father gets nervous.

“Are you kidding? He's terrified before he gets out there!” he said. “Terrified is too strong a word. But you know, like anybody, he gets butterflies a little bit. And then once he's in it, two or three minutes, he's forgotten about the nervousness.”

Romney has taken on a larger role in the campaign in recent weeks, speaking at more events and reportedly advising his father on strategy.

This was a joke (tongue-in-cheek), in poor taste no doubt, but a joke none the less.

Let's just call it even.

With all the hate-twitter death-threats that came from the Left (aimed at Mitt a day or so ago), I'd say they even each other out.

BOTH items are just misguided asinine comments, and nothing more.

Let's not let this distract us from the REAL issues, please.

Well my first reaction on this one was, big deal, that is his dad up there and to me it would be normal to have those emotions. So to me, whoopie, right?

Then my hubby pointed out that this same son is who is heading and guiding the campaign. Okay, well then that takes the innocence away from the remarks, because they were immature remarks to say knowing the media is gonna pic apart every word.

So I am left wondering why someone smart enuff to head up his fathers campaign would be so irresponsible about his remarks.

I can see both sides, but I don't think this is one that anyone will really blink twice at. Other than the media, imo

My husband would say this is all to divert us from looking at what's really going on.

Well...not sure that's politics.  I would say that is politics in the US.  Honestly, the news is super over the top about politics there.  It doesn't really happen to this extent in other countries.  I wonder why...that would be an interesting topic..comparing elections and the cycle/media in other countries. Don't ya think?  I gotta say, it gets nasty in the US.

Me too.  I hate going to a business dinner with my husband where I have to be on 'good behavior' the whole time.  LOL

If my husband were running for president, the secret service would stop me as I walked out the front door to tell me that I can't leave the house looking like that.  (you never see candidates wives in their sweat pants and ball cap on the way to Target or K Mart . . .)

Yes, politics is a rough business.  Can you imagine being the wife of someone going through a campaign?  It's stressful just being a citizen watching----  I can't imagine what it would be like directed at me, my husband or my kids!  Not fun!!

I disagree.  This is what gives politics a bad name.

(not meaning you shouldn't have posted it but just that it is silly news hitting the internet where people are eager to glom onto such stories that mean nothing to the election and are out there to put the Romney's down.  Tagg is his son.  Are people going to put this on their list of reasons to not vote for him?  Nope.  It's just 'bad publicity' and people eat it up.  Back to that ugly campaign thing I feel and speaks to what Adgal wrote about.)

Has anyone but me noticed that the news is getting increasingly, well, silly?  Honestly, even I am wishing this election was just over with so we can all get back to normal.  Everything is so scrutinized, every word over analyzed, and everyone seems to hate each other.  I am beginning to not like your elections...I want my friends back.

Dumb.  That's what this is.  I'm sorry but is this more 'big' news??  I'm gonna be on the front page of the paper tomorrow for telling my husband I was gonna kill him for letting our dog out when a rabbit is in the yard for the 100th time and it takes us 2 hours to find her again in the woods.

I'm VERY violent.

If this was a joke, lighthearted, it was not very intelligent.

You don't make jokes about wanting to take a swing at your political opponent unless you believe violence is the way to solve problems.

I watched that interview, live....and it was a TOTAL joke...especially when talking about the Secret Service guys.

The entire interview was very lighthearted.

Not very appropriate for sure.  I just think it's so sad that this whole election has come to this.  People threatening violence, hating at each other, etc.

I said this a while back, and I'll say it again.  It seems this election is really creating divides in your great country.  I think that's really sad.

If you hear the audio, he didn't sound like he was joking....There's just a level of respect one needs to have for the office of the POTUS regardless of what his party is..Clearly, The Romney's do not like or Respect President Obama....Tagg is 40 something years old. He should know better! IMO
