I'm not either. I've even let some nice Bucks walk. But we are starting to be over ran with Wild Hogs and we are forced to kill them to stop them from taking over.

Yesterday I saw a gorgeous 8 point buck in my yard. There was a time when I would shoot anything that moved but not anymore. I have trouble killing anything - even insects.

There is no glory in trophy hunting period. But herds do need to be managed as RG mentioned.

In New Hampshire I believe they are having a second doe season, over population and declining number of hunters. There is an argument for habitat management, imo.

I am down for a hog hunt!

I've passed on deer, elk and even some quail and dove.  I've always hunted for meat and the enjoyment of being outdoors with either my dad, grandpa, or some good buddies.

I've never hunted horns.  I don't like it so I don't participate.  If it's legal, what are you going to do?  If it is poaching, that is all together another issue.

mike... I understand what you are talking about.  Both my dad and grandfather gave up hunting and honestly I am not that much into it any more.

I have no problem with killing deer or hogs for meat. In fact, hogs can be very destructive to the natural environment. They were introduced here in California and they dig up so aggressively under oak trees that the acorns have no chance of rooting.
Deer are lovely but prolific and yummy :)

However trophy hunting is something that should be abolished. There are too many people and too few wild life left to rationalize that type of killing.

I have considered myself a pacifist but I WILL kill an insect in my house without thinking twice.  AND, I must admit this.  when critters big and small eat the heads off my hydrangea, eat my hosta to the ground, snack on my tomatoes, basil, beans, eat all the leaves off of a bush I'd saved up from left over grocery money to buy and plant . . .   I get hot under the collar.  At that moment, in my fit of rage . . .  they are lucky I don't own a gun!  My dog and I go on patrol almost every day but I've realized that the animals aren't really too afraid of either of us.  We have an overpopulation of deer around  here and they are domesticated enough that they come and go as they please.  That is when shooting is actually a mercy type of thing because I imagine they get pretty hungry in the winter.  Not that I feel sorry for them or are offering them a snack in my yard voluntarily (they'll take it when they want to though . . . ).

I had a birdfeeder.  Loved it.  It was a family favorite thing to do to sit and watch the birds . . .  until the squirrels began to get greedy.  They began knocking the whole thing down and raiding it.  No matter how I hung it, or how many times I retrieved it from the ground.  Oh, and this was a 'squirrel proof' feeder.  That's frustrating man.  I got rid of my bird feeder because it wasn't worth the daily battle.  Not to mention about 52 squirrels congregating in my yard while my dog went crazy inside.  I considered a bb gun for the squirrels at one point.  Didn't do it though, don't worry.

So, sometimes I get wanting to shoot something other than for food.  But I fight the urge and try to accommodate that which I can not get rid of.

I do get killing for food as well.

I do not get trophy hunting.  Especially a lion.  And then being super proud of it.

I've come to realize that some really do see hunting as their sport.  It's a whole world that I'm unfamiliar with.

I'm 100% ok with hunting for food or to cull a herd (Specialmom, I'm a gardener too, and I am so ok with all you say!!).  Deer starve in the winter and I personally love the meat, so all is well.  Heck, hunting is a way of life where I live.  However, to kill for no other reason then to be able to claim you killed?  That I find disgusting.  I cannot even watch things like this.  How do people that do this sleep at night?

ha ha.  Well, I put a lot of love into the garden and the yard intruders give me a run for my money to protect my bounty.  But . . .  I've never actually killed anything in the back yard.  I just fantasize about it here and there.

So, I'm not really a killer mom . . . yet.
