Oh please, no misunderstanding. I completely agree with you in how people use tylenol. They don't seem to understand how dangerous it can be to overuse or overdose on it. I think that is the case with a lot of otc commonly used medications. I think I get really passionate about the subject of kids getting into parents meds because of how many we have seen become seriously ill, brain damaged and killed over this issue. It just doesn't have to happen. All it takes is a little common sense.
Oh I agree with you really.
There's lots of stuff we need to keep those little hands away from.
Like I mentioned I have a pet peeve about the loose way people use tylenol, and well, besides the side effects of my medication making me rabid at times.
Orphanhawk, I wasn't attempting to say that tylenol was less dangerous. I know that overdosing on tylenol is extremely dangerous and potentially life threatening. My point was all medications/drugs are potentially dangerous, and my pet peeve is adults not being careful with them. Perhaps pot would only make him fall asleep, but I still don't think a 4 year old should have access to it. I have no problem with adults using pot at all, but I don't think any 4 year old should get their hands on it. Or alcohol. Or tylenol. Or vitamins, or whatever their parents are taking. It is neglectful.
Actually eating Pot would have little effect. You have to cook it down to make “Pot Butter” and use the Pot Butter to make Brownies or Cookies that will do the trick. So I’ve heard. LOL
If that kid ate a handful of pot, he'd fall asleep.
Life threatening?
Doubtful, people don't die from ingesting too much pot.
Just tylenol?
Try doing a google search on tylenol and liver failure.
If he ate one extra strength tylenol he could land up in the hospital with an emergency liver transplant or die.
After that happened to a 5 year old girl a number of years ago, they almost took the stuff off the market.
(It is one of my pet peeves that people over use, and doctors over prescribe tylenol.)
I send my son to daycare 3 days a week and am home with him the rest of the time. For us it's a good mix and my extra income makes quite a difference financially. It helps my son's social skills and he loves it there. But that being said, I can completely and totally guarantee my child will never get his hands on any drug (at least not at home), even if it's just tylenol. He is 2 and into absolutely everything. Even though he does not go unsupervised, we bought a lock box where we keep all meds, even vitamins. I have the key safely stored away. And quite frankly, if this 4 year old got his hands on this pot at home, then he is probably better off not being home with momma full time. I have no issue actually with pot and do believe in it's legalization, but still..no kid should be able to get his hands on it. I'm typically not judgemental, but there have just been too many cases of kids getting their hands on mommy and daddy's meds/drugs and overdosing or dying. If that kid had eaten that pot? It would have been seriously ugly. Perhaps life threatening.
I didn’t know it could be for 2-3 days a week. I thought it was all full time where they spend all day- 5 days a week.
That is the way it is here,
but it is not mandatory that you have to send your children to pre-school.
I stayed home and still sent my kids to preschool a couple days of the week.
We lived in the country and I sent them to preschool for socialization.
BTW: They were cooperative, so I spent time there too, helping out and getting to know the kids.
One size doesn't fit all.
And of course, kids shouldn't get into any meds, vitamins or other stuff.
Tylenol is more dangerous to a young child than a handful of pot.
None of these things belong in a 4 year old's pocket.
Oh, R Glass, I did send my kids to preschool. It was 2.5 hours one, two or three days a week depending on their age. It was valuable for my kids because I learned a lot about them in regards to how they acted when I wasn't there. I didn't do it for the educational component but the social aspect and learning what a classroom situation is like. We had a really awesome preschool experience with both of my boys. And they still got plenty of mama time. They loved it. But to each their own with that.
Again, off topic. I guess I’m just Old School and believe that 4 Year Olds belong with their Mother not at School. I understand there are situations that some mothers have no other choice but to work and I RESPECT THAT.
Even though we were poor (and I mean paying the “cut off notice bills” poor), my wife stayed home and raised our 3 kids. She Home Schooled them until they were in the 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade. When we put them in public school, all of their teachers were amazed at how far advanced they were over the rest of the students. She only taught them about 2-3 hours a day.
We keep all of our drugs---- legal or otherwise---- high up and out of reach of young children. I think that is in the kid owner manual.
True that. But what I am referring to is more the "Where is the watchful eye of mama?" Moreso than getting hold of pot, medicinal or otherwise. It could just have easily been something lethal. When kids are this age they should not ever be out of the watchful eye of an adult. imo Since the article did not speak of the child being removed from the home or anyone arrested, I think we can safely assume it was probably medicinal. You have to read between the lines these days ya know! lol sad isnt it.
First off, I am not defending anything but I am curious.
I know the dispensaries here sell these tiny bags, about the size of a postage stamp, little ziplock baggies of tiny bits of pot.
I'm not saying a little kid should have access to any pot but somehow I can see a kid getting a handful of those tiny bags being not quite as outrageous as a kid getting into 9 gallon bags.
That's why I ask, how big were the bags?
Small enough to fit in a 4 year old's pocket.
Pre School? Good catch R! And gets out from under his parents watchful eye as well? Well it sure does tell alot about the mama now doesnt it?
I know this is off topic but, what the hell is a 4 year old doing in school?
I can't possibly see how they can have an excuse. But your right, hearing it should be interesting.
Today's world is something, isn't it? I just want to hear the parents excuse for this....
Crazy! Sadly, doesn't really surprise me though. My husbands cousin is a first grade teacher and caught a large group of her 6 year old students smoking. I just have to shake my head and wonder what the heck goes on at some of these kids homes. You know that has to be where this kid got it. 4 years old. Just crazy.
