yesterday one of our local cops was speeding down the street, for reasons unknown still and hit a 14 year old girl trying to cross the street... killed her. they are now trying to find out why he was going to fast, and if he had on his lights or anything...
We've had an awful lot of robberies lately. It seemed to start before Christmas and they figured it's people needing money because of the economy and such but I don't know. We're seeing more homeless people walking around in our city, too, and we didn't used to have that many here.
We've had several banks, convenient stores and fast food joints robbed lately. Crazy.
Well, we have news of a deputy sheriff being investigated by DEA -- he's on "paid leave" until the investigation is over. If they find that he did something wrong, does he have to pay back the money he got on "paid leave", since he should have been fired instead?? Just curious about that.
Also a big thing in our news was a woman who got picked up twice in one weekend for DUI -- the second time, she asked the deputy to ticket her for some much minor offense, because "it wouldn't look good to get stopped twice in 3 days for DUI"....She got 2 DUI tickets!! Yeah, for that deputy........
I won't mention the other big news because it will start something that wasn't intended on this thread.........
I just heard on the news that the other little guy died. Pray for the family.
Oh how terribly sad. Even though it's just an accident, guaranteed that mother will never ever forgive herself. I hurt for all of them.
Our big news is the increase in gang activity. This is all new for us....guns, shootings, etc. It's really scary. We have two primary gangs, and they pretty much only attack each other, but on 2 occasions now innocent bystanders have been caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and been shot. I know it doesn't sound like much, but guns and the like are something we have never had to worry about before. Gone are the days where we don't lock our doors. We now even have a gang task force in our police service. They are doing a great job, but our system is not yet properly equipped to deal with this. Makes me want to move to a tiny little town somewhere, I hate it. Our population here is now up to 1,000,000 though, so I guess it was inevitable. Sad.
Good idea...
How horribly sad, the news where you are. Uh, uh, UH! Can't stand the thoughts of THAT one.
I went on-line to our BIG (not) local newspaper and the big news is that Brendan Dassey, the boy who was convicted in a case that made national headlines, is having a new trial that began today. Yuck. Our town, in the national spotlight.
You might remember the scumbag, Steven Avery, who lured an Auto Trader photographer photographer to his families auto salvage yard...? This was a couple of years ago and it happened on Halloween. Well, this boy, who is Avery's nephew, is saying he didn't get a fair trial.
I have now lived in this town for almost 6 years, and in the whole COUNTY, we have STILL had only 3 MURDERS...and the last one was not "certainly" here. Since the body was FOUND here, it is being treated like it HAPPENED here. A husband killed a wife but they were from nearby Brown County and for all anyone knows, he murdered her there and dumped her body in a remote section of our county.
The 3rd "murder" was a senile 78-year-old man who mistook his wife for an intruder and shot and killed her! That's the ONLY 3 murders in the 6 years I've lived in this part of WI. In Orlando, where I came from, we had 1 every 3 or 4 days...or 6 or 7 on good years.
I digressed.............
