Having the internet regurgitated to me is  . . . tiring.  By about the 6th paragraph, I'm looking for some input from the poster.  I guess I am alone in that.  But at least we could put where we are taking it from.  I'm not trying to insult anyone.

It's very narrow minded to brand all progressives with tags like,  "Conservative socialism" and "want to destroy the Constitution", it's like saying "all republicans are uneducated, bible thumpers". It is untrue. And to prove this point, one only needs to read the definition of progressive and look for the facts on progressives in past history. Not all progressives agree on the same issues or how to achieve them.
Mirriam-Webster Dictionary

The Progressive Movement was an effort to cure many of the ills of American society that had developed during the great spurt of industrial growth in the last quarter of the 19th century. The frontier had been tamed, great cities and businesses developed, and an overseas empire established, but not all citizens shared in the new wealth, prestige, and optimism.

Efforts to improve society were not new to the United States in the late 1800s. A major push for change, the First Reform Era, occurred in the years before the Civil War and included efforts of social activists to reform working conditions, and humanize the treatment of mentally ill people and prisoners.
Others removed themselves from society and attempted to establish utopian communities in which reforms were limited to their participants. The focal point of the early reform period was abolitionism, the drive to remove what in the eyes of many was the great moral wrong of slavery.
The second reform era began during Reconstruction and lasted until the American entry into World War I. The struggle for women's rights and the temperance movement were the initial issues addressed. A farm movement also emerged to compensate for the declining importance of rural areas in an increasingly urbanized America.
As part of the second reform period, Progressivism was rooted in the belief, certainly not shared by all, that man was capable of improving the lot of all within society. As such, it was a rejection of Social Darwinism, the position taken by many of the rich and powerful figures of the day.
Progressivism was also imbued with strong political overtones and rejected the church as the driving force for change. Specific goals included:
The desire to remove corruption and undue influence from government through the taming of bosses and political machines;
the effort to include more people more directly in the political process;

the conviction that government must play a role to solve social problems and establish fairness in economic matters.

The success of Progressivism owed much to publicity generated by the muckrakers, writers who detailed the horrors of poverty, urban slums, dangerous factory conditions, and child labor, among a host of other ills.

The successes were many, beginning with the Interstate Commerce Act (1887) and the Sherman Antitrust Act (1890). Progressives never spoke with one mind and differed sharply over the most effective means to deal with the ills generated by the trusts; some favored an activist approach to trust-busting, others preferred a regulatory approach.

A vocal minority supported socialism with government ownership of the means of production. Other Progressive reforms followed in the form of a conservation movement, railroad legislation, and food and drug laws.

The Progressive spirit also was evident in new amendments added to the Constitution, which provided for a new means to elect senators, protect society through prohibition and extend suffrage to women.

Urban problems were addressed by professional social workers who operated settlement houses as a means to protect and improve the prospects of the poor. However, efforts to place limitations on child labor were routinely thwarted by the courts. The needs of blacks and Native Americans were poorly served or served not at all — a major shortcoming of the Progressive Movement.

Progressive reforms were carried out not only on the national level, but in the states and municipalities of the country as well. Prominent governors devoted to change included Robert M. La Follette of Wisconsin and Hiram Johnson of California.

Such reforms as the direct primary, secret ballot, and the initiative, referendum and recall were effected. Local governments were strengthened by the widespread use of trained professionals, particularly with the city manager system replacing the all-too-frequently corrupt mayoral system

Do you know that Progressivism is really 'Conservative Socialism 'they detest the ideas behind the Declaration of Independance . they believe in moving beyond the Constitution,and want to destroy the Consititution,they want to centralise Authority (Government)  google... Woodrow Wilson he was a Racist /Progressive he re-segregated the Military  They changed the History books ,they recreated Laws,Harvard Dean of Law ,Roscoe Pound , in 1920 changed case law to 'legal realism' using courts as instruments to push th Progressive agenda .;No Rule of Law ' rule of Men '   I believe all this is happening again now I think this President and his administration are Conservative Socialists seeking to destroy the Constitution  like Wilson and Roosevelt

I don't understand the glorification of these tyrannical mass murderers, like chairman Mao and the likes of Che Guavera. Another criminal whose constantly being glorified, especially in the Mexican community, is Pancho Villa. My grandfather (on my father's side) rode with Pancho Villa, so it's neither bias nor racist when I say that Pancho Villa and his gang were nothing more than thieving, murdering rapists... and, they did it all in the name of freeing the peasantry from the stronghold of the upper class elite. Ironically, my mother's grandparents were part of that elitist upper class establishment.
Anyway, it's odd how the images of these low-life, counter-culture scumbag's sell products. I guess it's because they were all anti-establishment rebels... and maybe therein lies the mass appeal. I'm convinced that the masses, in general, are totally ignorant when it comes to historical facts. And, people don't put enough thought into who they choose as their heroes.

I really don't know a lot about it, but I have seen some of the history shown. I always get a sick feeling when I see what was done to people that they considered not worthy to live. If they couldn't contribute or contribute enough to society as they saw it, off to the gas chamber or what they decide is the way to die. Destroying people with a "humane death", is like they do in animal pounds. It puts the value of human life to nothing. If they thought you were not from their ideal breed of people, like the Jewish people, the result was how they tried to rid the world of them. They are "mad" as in "out of their minds", and put themself as god of their society.

Go to the foxnews ******* website. From the home page, type: "live free or die" into
the search box. Click over the " live free or die" title and you'll be able to view the 15 minute segment. It appears to be the first of future stories exposing the lies surrounding those who professed Progressive ideology. It's very interesting. This segment discusses Nazism and it ties with Communism and how both belief systems purported to rid society of it's problems... via extermination.

It's basically a political movement that promotes change from the ills of present day struggles and usually calls for economic, social and political reform. Theodore Roosevelt was considered to be a Progressive president. His cause was Conservation as he was very big on preserving our natural resources... even though he, himself, was also an avid hunter of wild game.
Anyway, there are many other causes that would fall under the Progressive ideology...
At the early part of the last century, it was child labor laws and women's suffrage. Throughout the 1960s, it was racial integration. Today, an good example of a progressive cause would be Environmentalism.
