Romney Won't Face 'The View'

WALTHAM, Mass. - Ann Romney will visit the women of ABC's "The View" solo Thursday, her husband no longer available to appear on the show he once referred to as "high risk."
Co-host Barbara Walters announced on the show this morning that she was told over the weekend Mitt Romney could no longer make the appearance.
"Governor Romney was supposed to be on with us this Thursday with Ann Romney," Walters said. "We were looking forward to it. Over the weekend, his people have said that he had scheduling problems, and would not be coming on with us, nor did not feel that he could reschedule. We are happy to have Mrs. Romney on with us, and are sorry that we won't have Governor Romney, and that's the situation."
Walters left the door open for Romney to "change his mind," adding that it would "be our pleasure to have him on the show."
Andrea Saul, a spokeswoman for the Romney campaign, said in a statement to ABC News that "it was no longer going to work in the campaign schedule but Mrs. Romney is very excited to join the ladies of The View."
In September, leaked footage from a fundraiser showed Romney referring to the show as "high risk" because of what he called some of the "sharp-tongued" co-hosts. Following the leak, the campaign said at the time that Romney would be willing to appear on the show in October.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the co-hosts who is the known conservative of the five, said that she had reached out to the campaign after the remarks and they had confirmed that the Romneys would "love to once more join the sharp-tongued chatter in October."
Co-host Sherri Shepherd said at the time that she wasn't sure how Romney could be able to "handle the country" if he can't "handle four sharp-tongued women."
In the leaked video, Romney is heard saying that while "The View" is "fine," it is "high risk because of the five women on it, only one is conservative and four are sharp-tongued and not conservative."
President Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt tweeted a link to the news that Romney would not be appearing on the show with the comment, "View was apparently too "high risk" for @MittRomney."

You're wrong... I do understand that some women and how some women can be offended at that remark.  You don't understand that the remark was not meant for all women, just those select 5... that's it, nothing more, nothing less.  It's not that big of a deal.  If I were calling any one of the wonderful women that posts here, a "heifer" I could understand.  Fact is, none of the women who post here behave like heifers, so it would completely be insulting to them them as such.  Those 5... every one of them, kind of act like heifers.

This is no more insulting than calling any politician an idiot, a dolt, or anything else.

It is time to move away from this now.... enough already.  I apologized in an earlier post and spent a couple of others trying to explain.  If there is still offense being taken, I'm sorry.

Now, before I go... can I grab anyone else a frigging tissue?  LOL  (You can complain about that now, even though it was clearly a joke....)

I’ve never watched the View so I can’t comment on the program. However, every time I see Whoopie G., I want to put her in the back of my truck and drive through the Car Wash.

Okay, maybe I overreacted.

Let forget about the heifers and mooove on:)

I just saw your remark to me that you posted on the wrong thread.

Look, you obviously don't understand why women would take offense at this remark.
It's not a big deal but your comment about an honest day's work was way out of line.
You know nothing about ME and nothing about what I've done in my life. I've had livestock and a big garden and raised kids, kept the house clean, cooked, etc, etc.
I lived with dirt under my finger nails so don't accuse me of not knowing what work is, you don't know me.
The neighbors cattle were always pushing over the fences. I know what work is so maybe YOU should get off your high horse. Sheesh.

And what if I hadn't done those things ? It would not have made your comments any more appropriate.

I don't have to like your choice of insults but that doesn't mean I'm attacking YOU. Why did you attack me ????

I really don't understand.

I tend to agree with you brice, but however, it has high ratings so,,,,, somebody is watching!

I put them right up there with some of those stupid so called reality shows they have on now. Who cares about chefs and cooking at 8 in the evening anyway?

I think we are all getting a little too sensitive in this society.  If anyone took offense to my "heifer" statement, I am sorry that you did.  It was not directed at you, therefore, I don't think you should have taken offense.

If these women didn't intellectually remind me of "heifers", they would not have been referred to as such.   I don't find any of them as particularly smart, charming, witty or level headed.  I think the show is a tv version of the National Enquirer, but somehow dumbed down and of less substance.

I've been around cows enough to know they are incredible big and stupid, in my humble opinion.
They are about as intelligent as turkeys, as far as I can tell.

Like I said, I don't watch the program, I'd rather stare at the wall.

SM~ I think that doctors quote was not  a very smart thing to say to a woman who has just given birth and tends to be emotional and feeling, not as pretty as she'd like.

Okay,I have to put in my 2 cents on this.
First of all, kudos to Mike (and yet a male) who was the first to comment on the word.
I have not been up to conflicts lately so I avoided it (it actually started with a post from El calling them cows) I know this sounds stupid, but I really love cows, btw, so I don't really take offense. :-)
Okay back to my point. I battled my male students for years for this kind of language-they loved calling the girls cows, heifer, ****** and b**ches. They had no idea the kind of power these words had over these girls and it infuriated me. I made them write essays about the woman they loved most in the world and then told them to substitute "the cow" for "her".
I really tried and it was a losing battle most of the time.
I guess I kind of gave up. I know that El and Brice are good guys. Brice refers to his wife frequently with love and respect, he is no woman hater.
It is a simple case of sensitivity which is missing in a lot of folks, a lot of good folks. I include myself in this too. For all my rallying for love and acceptance I can be very insensitive and yes, mean. Not proud of it, either.

"A happy cow makes good milk?"  Man, OH is going to go after that doctor, so you'd better be offended real quick.  I mean, how dare this woman doctor make such a reference!!!!  Don't you understand?  That could be the end of the world.

I don't know how your husband didn't "horse whip" that doctor for that reference.  No doubt, you guys lost tons of sleep over this, right?  Perhaps everyone did in that office....  Give the names to OH... I'm sure she is leading the lynch mob in that direction after she takes care of me.

You took offense to that, eh?  You're taking yourself too seriously.  The word was directed at 5 individuals who frankly behave like heifers.  Have you worked cows before?

I am not stereotyping women.... it was clearly directed at them.... settle down.  I've used the term since I first saw a cow and later worked with them.  It's okay.... they are hard to deal with.  Fits the bill.

Find something serious, would you?

okay, true story.  When I had my first child ----  my husband and I were disasters.  Here we were, 'older parents' thrust into the world of trying to keep what appeared to be this fragile 'thing' alive.  This thing that we'd known for a couple of days and loved more than anything.  We went to the pediatrician's office for that first baby check the day after we got out of the hospital and my husband and I both went to the appointment, of course.  I was having some trouble nursing but really really wanted to, like with desperate intensity that only someone new to parenthood and had plotted on having kids her whole life would be.  So, the doctor was talking about all sorts of things to help.  And she then directed the conversation to my husband and was telling him that he should do extra special things for me and be the most loving and patient husband around and then said, and I quote "A happy cow makes good milk."

I stared off into space and thought "did I really just hear her say that (yes, it was a her)."

I love our doctor. She is fantastic and has treated my family very well.

But I still have that reference to me being a cow stuck in my mind.

Much better though than someone saying that in reference to any weight gain I've had since kids . . .

OH, no bull.  You're funny.

I really don't like you calling them heifers and I wouldn't waste my time watching the program even if I did watch more than a show or two.

It is insulting to women in a general way. No bull.

No its not mike.... you're too hard on yourself.  I'm telling ya... look out for that health.

By the way, I'm over it.  I can admit to being misogynistic towards those heifers.  I kind of almost respect Barbara Walters, if for nothing else, her longevity.

Don't let that bother you.  There are for more important things in your life than me being misogynistic to that group....  Think of your health.  A guy your age shouldn't get too worked up over things like this.
