Sarah Palin e-mail message written as though from God

MAN... I'd be in some SERIOUS doo-doo if my email list ever got out!

Can you imagine if someone got hold of every single email that you';d ever written? SURELY every single one of us here is guilty of saying SOMETHING terrible, at some point, in an email.

And honestly, this really isn't all that terrible. I wrote a poem, when my Granny died, and wrote it from God's viewpoint (about how he would take care of her and make sure she brushed her teeth and said her prayers every night, etc. I was kind of funny, actually, and helped all of my cousins and family members to get through the mourning period).

(CNN) – Among the 24,000 pages of e-mail from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin released on Friday, one message stands out for its signature line. It's signed by the "Creator" and "Your Heavenly Father." In other words, God.

Palin sent the e-mail to family and friends in April 2008 in anticipation of the birth of her and her husband Todd's fifth child, Trig. Palin knew her son would have Down syndrome, and the e-mail is a meditation on that knowledge and on how others should view him in light of the diagnosis.

"I am blessing you with this surprise baby because I only want the best for you," the e-mail message begins. "I've heard your prayers that this baby will be happy and healthy, and I've answered them because I only want the best for you!"

Palin included most of the e-mail in her 2009 book Going Rogue.

"In my research on Down syndrome, I learned that these special kids most often bring joy into their family’s lives," she wrote in that book, explaning her decision to pen a note in the voice of God. "While they had developmental challenges, they were also affectionate, generous, and cheerful. Rather than focus on what could be perceived as negative, I wanted our loved ones to focus on the fact that this baby, every baby, has purpose, and that not only would he learn from us, but we would learn from him."

"I decided to write the letter as though it were from Trig’s Creator, the same Creator in whom I had put my trust more than thirty years before," she continued in Going Rogue. "I hoped that even though this new baby would present challenges, we’d trust that God knew best, that He didn’t make mistakes."

The e-mail message released last week includes lines that Palin edited out of her book.

For instance, Palin - channeling the voice of God - wrote in her message that a Down syndrome child will make family and friends rethink traditional notions of perfection. The e-mail released last week includes subsequent lines that were edited out of Going Rogue:

*But tell me what do you earthlings consider "perfect" or even "normal" anyway? Have you peeked down any      grocery store aisle, or school hallway, or into your office lunchroom lately? Or considered the odd celebrities you celebrate as "perfect" on t.v.? Have you noticed I make 'em all shapes and sizes? Believe me, there is no "perfect"!*

The full e-mail message is below. What do you think of the idea of penning a note from God?

I dont think it is possible to have news without a slant these days, regardless of which side you are on. Whats funny though, is I talked to an old guy who use to be a n.p. reporter years ago and he said even back then he was required to slant the news stories certain ways. The closest thing I think anyone can do is listen to the same story from two completely opposite news sources, and the truth will be somewhere in the middle.

The "facts" aren't the "facts" unless there is a bias applied to it, it seems.  Maybe its just my perception, I don't know.  It just seems that every story has a bias to it, either one way or the other depending on the network.  The majority of the news is politically driven, and they mix in a few feel good stories.... I just don't get it.

I've looked to the BBC to get another perspective and heard some commentary that ended with, "in this reporters opinion".  (It had to do with NATO and Libya.)  When it comes to the news, as boring as it may seem, all I want is facts... no spins, no twists, and no opinion.  I'll listen to opinions here and on other outlets.

At dinner last night we had this conversation (about the media).  Same problem here...you never know anymore whether you are getting the facts or their version of them.  We also tend to have media that leans left or right...what a delight it would be to get the actual unbiased facts and be able to draw our own conclusions.  A little credit for having some intelligence would be nice instead of them attempting to influence thinking and outcomes.  I don't think it was always this way....or was I just less aware of it?

You are right about the media ,most important news isn't covered by any of them its all political or trivia, they are extremely left wing in their bias ..Fox seems to be more moderate than it used to be ...So between them all I doubt the US gets any truthful reporting ..

Palin's letter?  I liked it and thought it was well written and from a different perspective.  With all of the bull-butter I subjected my family too this last year and a half or so, I wrote a lot of things from a lot of perspectives.

Weiner?  (Since he was mentioned)  It's not just republicans that want him gone, high ranking democrats with a lot of seniority have called for him to step down.  Nobody is speaking highly of the guy.... it is what it is and it doesn't affect my world in the least.

Ludicrous???  Good word, and it completely describes the current state of affairs in regards to politics.  I'm 44 years old and have really only been taking any kind of interest in politics since the Clinton administration.  I have never seen the division between the 2 major parties so vast.... with that, the gap is widening and 3rd party affiliation is growing basically out of default.  The hard lines on either side are causing some defectors to these 3rd parties.

With Palin, I know people who cannot give you a legitimate reason for disliking the woman, other than the fact that "she is Palin". (The same can be said about the President).  But that's what we've come to.  There are far too many people who are letting the others do the thinking for them and they just hop on board with whatever is being said in opposition of whomever they "hate".  I find this pitiful.

(Just for reference, locally a few years back in our local race for mayor.... one of the candidates had a slogan, "Jackson for Jackson".  This person won the election on her name alone.  Uneducated voters whom recently moved to town and registered to vote, knowing nothing about any of the candidates, voted for this person because "it sounded right."    This newly elected mayors job performance was horrible.... she gave work contracts to friends instead of opening each contracted job out for bid and payed inflated prices to her friends that got the work and furthermore ran the towns government into the toilet.  She was absent most of the time and had a horrible attitude towards anything having to do with her job.... she even said one time, and I quote... "I don't have time for town meetings, I am a mother and I have to be home".)

Furthering our problems regarding politics is a very biased media.  Depending on which side is doing the spin, anything and everything is being taken out of context and spun in a fashion to either damage or bolster politicians performance ratings.  This too is pitiful.  Everything regarding politics has gone to extremes and the real truth is becoming harder to find within the daily news.... some journalists are miserable examples of news reporters.

It's too ludicrous to seriously entertain - Palin as President.
It's amusing though - quite amusing.

I read this letter earlier today wow it was such a wonderful delightful letter from a wonderful woman ..It was written to her friends and family ,I don't suppose she for one moment thought it would be shared by so many fans and foes alike ..I really hope she runs for President of The US we could sure use this kind of love and leadership after 2 years of negativity.... .

It looks like we all agree her personal emails should be kept private.
El, you are right, all of have emails we wouldnt want read.
To me when I read this, it was clearly a woman trying to find comfort and strength in her God, to come to grips with the fact her baby was going to be born imperfect. A very private moment that has been made public and its sad.

As far as the emails, that was wrong pure and simple and I dont know who instigated it or why and frankly dont care one witt. If no one reads them then it was a waste of time. I cannot imagine carrying a child and finding out it was disabled. I imagine it would be hard, but I also think it takes a courageous individual with a lot of love in their heart as well, to first of all keep them, not abort and to dedicate their lives to them. I always said God only entrusts those children with a certain strong type of person.

Politically. Okay you all know how I feel there. :)

Ah Margy do unto others as you would have them do unto your sara. NOW NOW! rotten Weiner hasnt been smeared like she has been? I dunno I think he is really getting raked over pretty good! Or is it because he is a democrat that you think he is getting special treatment?

He is a really good patriot and most of his constituents want him to stay in. They dont think he did anything criminal they say. I guess they feel toward him the same way you do sara and cannot see beyond their blinders either.

Now dont get mad at me, you started this discussion, you remember that now. Peace!

They should concentrate on the evil minded people who wanted to smear her ,the media has much to answer for ,even that rotten Weiner hasn't been smeared like she has been ..the attacks on her daughter and family were and are appalling, She is a really good patriot of America ...that's what scares people ..seems to me many just don't want a woman president Bachman is now getting some of the same ....unlike other countries who have women leaders . I doubt the US will have a woman in the WH ..As for what Palin has said my goodness I think Obama and Biden have said worse ....

I think the email is very sweet myself!

Unfortunately, I think the timing of her run for VP in the last election and the age of her son with down syndrome was something that turned me off from her.   There are certain things that one can and can't do on the road and with a schedule like she was keeping.  I was in the middle of early intervention with my son at that time and found myself really wondering about her.

On the other hand, she did bring a bit more awareness to special needs families and I felt good about her opinions regarding children with disabilities.

I am not saying moms shouldn't work or have careers----------  but know about the personal sacrifice it takes when God hands you a child that requires special care.

Just my opinion on that particular subject and I am by no means saying she is a bad person for it or a bad mother.  I just don't relate to her.

Anyway, our paper ran an article on these emails and said they indicated that she was an ambitious, hard working woman with nothing to hide.  The article indicated that the emails released made her look good!  (I think some were hoping for the opposite.)

Oh, and I

I'll say this too. As much as I dont' agree with hardly anything Sarah may say politically, I do have a very high regard for her as a mother.  I think she is very devoted to her family and they seem very close.  I do like that about her.  I think this email only proves her devotion, and I think little Trig is a beautiful little boy who was fortunate enough to be born to a mother determined that he would be loved and accepted by all.

This sort of hits close to home as when I was pregnant with my son the Dr.'s told me he was very high risk for DS.  I knew how much I would love him and worried a great deal about how others would accept him.  Wish I would of thought of something like that.

You know, I think what she wrote is sweet.  I have a very close MH friend (who has become a friend outside of MH as well) who had a baby with DS.  She always talks about how that child is a gift from God and what a blessing it was for her to be given that little girl.

I don't have an issue with this email at all.  It was a very nice way to explain to her family how she felt about this child and how she hoped and wanted others to.  It's not like she was thinking she really was God or something.

Still not a Sarah fan, but I will never think this whole email thing, or anyone picking on her kids or family life is ok.

Your right el, if my emails ever became public there are probably lots of things that could easily be taken out of context and exploited.  I'm sure it's the same of all of us.
