Reoccuring bald spot on tongue

For the thrid time in 4 months I've had a bald spot on the front left part of my tongue.  The first two times is was about double the size of a pencil eraser and the bald area is more red that the rest of my tongue, this time it's about half the size and the bald area is not as red.  Without giving the whole backstory I may have had a sexual encounter over 8 months ago.  Since then I have been in a constant state of panic , I think I have dry mouth on and off, then this pops up and disappears within a week or two.  Also it seems like the front edge of my tongue gets a little red at times   I have had a urinalysis which I tested negative, I had a syphilis test that was negative and I took an oraquik h.I.v. test that was negative.  Please help if you can .

I can understand your concern. I would for sure go to your general practitioner and dentist and have them assess the lesion.  We call anything like this a lesion...not a word to be scared by. If you bit your tongue we'd call the bite a lesion, so no need to worry about that word. You are right, there are sexually transmitted diseases that manifest in the mouth, but it could also be other things also. I'm glad that you have taken tests and ruled a few things out. The lesion could be from something serious or something harmless.  A few years back my daughter was going through puberty and it caused her geographic tongue to have bald patches---which was also aggravated by her addiction to Flaming Hot Cheetoes. After a biopsy and a lot of heartache it all ended up being fine.  She is fine now and is a healthy college student.  Just go to the M.D. and the D.D.S..  As for the dry mouth, that could be causing the issue, believe it or not. But let the dr's decide.  Dry mouth is called Xerostomia, and it is really common.  Buy Biotene and use as the bottle directs. It is a great product. Avoid alcohol and products with alcohol. They cause dryness. Suck on sugar free mints or chew sugar free gum---these will cause you salivate more which is exactly what you need if your mouth is dry. Good luck. Write back and let me know how you're doing and we'll go from there if needed.

It disappeared shortly after my last post and looks like there's a spot of some sort forming in exactly the same spot again. I was just at the dentist last week and everything looked fine.  My question revolves around the location.  Can an std cause one mark reoccurring in the exact same location, if so which one.  Can stress cause a repeat in locale?

I was convinced stress was the root of my issue and I also was sure that a month + ago I had relieved all of my stress but the spot is back.  Does anyone have anything to add ? Thank you.

I don't have an answer for you but suffer from the same affliction. Comes and goes in the same spot for the last 5 years. Antibiotics didn't help. Drs are stumped. All tests are negative. Tried herpes medication as a mouth rinse failed also.
