If you do not like to take painkillers, you can buy some clove oil and apply a little to the hurting area. Take care with this because it can burn the gums.
At that time, the dentist did a really nice job on the tooth and the filling was very smooth. As I didn't know the senior dentist and how he finished off his work, I did not want to go through the pain and trauma of having it all drilled out again and then having a problem with it catching on my tongue. I had problems like that in the past. In fact some years later the senior dentist did a wonderful job on another tooth, but my tongue kept ripping on it. I changed dentist and he had to redo the filling twice before I was happy with it.
I had worse problems when I had a gold cap fitted when I was 21. The cap was made too big and it threw my jaw out of alignment that made me not only get pain across the head it also made me feel very dizzy and nearly faint. I had to have my bottom tooth ground down to compensate.
The dentist I have now is very much for prevention.
As you have not long had your tooth filled, leave it for a couple of weeks and see if it settles down. I would suggest you do not bite hard on it and use a toothpaste suitable for sensitive teeth.
Hope your pain won't last long.
Best wishes.
Hey,
Your tooth pain lasted 6 months?! I can't even take 2nd day, trying to find any home remedies how to stop this pain ( I don't take painkillers.. ) and you've been with pain for whole 6 months! That's a lot.
I hope my tooth will heal sooner. If not, wouldn't it be better just get root canal treatment?
Because you have had a deep cavity, the dentist got close to the root nerve.
You can expect pain or an ache in that tooth for quite a while. It will settle down eventually.
To give you an idea, I had a filling done on a back tooth on the lower jaw that caused a lot of pain across my top and bottom jaw that lasted 6 months. A senior dentist at the practise did offer to redo the filling, but I didn't want to go through all the drilling again.
I found a new dentist.
Hope your tooth problem settles down soon.
