I've had a white coated tongue for as long as I can remember (since 4th grade, and I'm 16 now). The main problem I have with this isn't the hairy tongue itself, but the bad breath caused by it. I am very healthy (I exercise and eat little sugar and many fruits and veggies etc..). If I'm not chewing gum, especially after I eat, I can almost taste my bad breath. My mouth always becomes sticky and dry (This started happening after I used an orabrush to scrape off the white even though it grows back when i scrape). I was prescribed to nystatin and it didnt do a thing. My doctor said "It's just how your tongue is." That really annoyed me. My only goal in life is to have good breath without chewing gum constantly. Please help me, I'm incredibly depressed over this. If anyone knows anything please share. I can post a pic or two of my tongue too if that would help.
