As the dentist found nothing wrong with the tooth and gum that is good.

I take it that he didn't say that you have sensitive teeth then?  If you have receding gums you may find it is very sensitive to hot, cold and sweet food and drinks.  If that is the case, you can purchase the toothpastes for sensitive teeth.  It builds up over time and the sensitivity gets less with time.

Try the toothpaste for sensitive teeth and gums before going back to the dentist as I know that you have to pay, and they aren't cheap.

Best wishes.

I know what you mean about the cost.

I am with a private dentist too and pay monthly which includes 2 check ups twice a year.  But any other work has to be paid for, but the do give me a 20% loyalty discount.

I take it, that it hasn't settled down yet then?
Has he told you what he is intending to do on Monday?

Let me know how you get on and hope that it is not an abscess, but just an inflamed gum from something you have eaten.

Best wishes.

Hi,

No he didnt x ray it, just poked around the gum.

I think the filling is intact & it doesnt hurt when i eat, i am worried theres a abscess forming.

I cant wait til monday morning to go back, im with a private dentist so dreading the cost.

Thankyou for reply

Did the dentist take an xray of the tooth?  If the throbbing is coming from the tooth root there may be an abscess forming.

As long as the filling is intact and the chip has no fracture where sugary foods and drink can penetrate through it to the inner tooth, there should be no problem.

If it is around the outside of your tooth, it that would be a gum problem.
Did the dentist say the gum looked healthy or not?  Flossing in between the teeth to the gum line will help.  Rinse your mouth with salty water after washing your teeth.  Or use an antibacterial mouth wash.

For bruxism (grinding of teeth), you can get a gum shield to protect your teeth from being worn away from grinding when you sleep.  The dentist usually makes it for you to fit over your bottom teeth.  I do not know what the cost of that would be and whether it would be done for free if you are using a NHS dentist.  You would have to ask the dental receptionist.

Best wishes.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and welcome,
A clinical examination is important for diagnosing the cause of your symptoms. The most common causes of toothache are dental cavity and gum disease .Bruxism can cause jaw tenderness and abnormalities in teeth. If you are not satisfied with your dentist’s opinion seeking a second opinion may be helpful. It is important to rule out any cavity or dental decay. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Do write to me again on how you are doing.
Best luck and regards!
