Yellow Spot on tooth

I have a somewhat small yellow spot on my #8 that I am very self conscience about. The spot was whiter than my tooth enamel before i started smoking but its now a light yellow and it is the only tooth affected by smoking thus far. I went to the dentist the other day and he sad he could basically get rid of it by, im not exactly sure what he said word for word...but basically grinding it down slightly and filling/bonding (<---not sure about that) it back to its normal shape.
I plan on getting this done so I guess my question is, what are some complications of this procedure? Will it be sensitive to hot/cold similar to a filling? If so, will it go away the same way as in a filling? And is their sustained pain following the procedure? Thanks a lot in advance guys!

There won't be any complications.
The material used is the exact same as what's used for a filling.
Most likely the tooth won't be sensitive at all afterwards, just because the dentist won't be drilling too deep.
The only problem that you will have is that you are a smoker and over time the margins of the filling (bonding) will turn brown or yellow again.
Good luck! This kind of thing is done all the time!
