I'm looking for a recipe for homemade fluoride mouthwash

My dentist tells me I'm getting the beginnings of decay, even though I brush and floss, and I know this is almost certainly because I don't use toothpaste, and therefore am not delivering fluoride to my teeth. My drinking water is fluoridated, but this doesn't seem to be sufficient.

My problem is that almost all fluoride toothpastes and mouthwashes are also mint-flavoured, and I just cannot tolerate mint - it plays havoc with my stomach. They also have saccharine in them too, which I find really sickly.

For this reason, I want to make my own mint-free fluoride mouthwash, preferably with some chlorhexidine in it (because my gums aren't in very good condition).

I've searched the Web and can't find any recipes. Can anyone help here? Thanks.

You guys all failed chemistry in high school. Elemental fluorine is one of the most reactive and dangerous elements, and so is chlorine, but we are speaking of the salt of these chemicals. A 0.1% sodium fluoride solution is the active ingredient in mouthwash, and its  as danger as a 0.1% sodium chloride (table salt) solution.

I totally agree with caregiver222 that fluoride is a toxic substance.

The fluoride that is put into the drinking water in some UK towns is not a natural substance.  It is the by product of the phosphate industry.
You cannot filter it out using normal filters and it does not boil out.  Boiling water just increases its toxicity.

It is argued that fluoride helps to protect young children's teeth.  In fact it is normal for children to lose their milk teeth.

Too much fluoride can also cause fluorosis of the bones and teeth (mottled teeth).

Fluoride does not get excreted from the body, but accumulates with use.

There have been active campaigns over many years to stop fluoridation of water supplies in the UK and also to stop it being added to the water that is not fluoridated in some towns.

Fluoride is one of the most toxic substances known to man. It should never have been added to drinking water. It is a primary componant of one variety of military nerve agent. The idea of creating a home-made "fluoride" rinse is not a good idea.

I do not know how to make fluoride toothpaste.

You can make a mouth wash with water and some salt.
Bicarbonate of Soda is used as a wash by the hygienist, so you could some of that.  You can purchase it from the supermarket in the baking section.  The chemist may have it and some DIY stores sell it sometimes too.

To help your gums back into good condition as well as brushing in a circular motion, floss in between the teeth and down to the gum line.  Your hygienist would show you the correct way to do this.

You can buy a children's toothpaste, there a few different ones available and these come in different flavours.  The fluoride in the won't be as much as is in an adult toothpaste.

Your dentist can also apply fluoride to your teeth that have been exposed to the gums receding, can't remember what flavour that comes in.  The dentist may charge for this.
