Bleeding gums usually indicates the start of gingivitis. You should probably get to your dentist for a professional cleaning of your teeth.  Smoking makes the gum shrink back and you may now be accumulating plaque around the gumline of your teeth.
This would make the gums irritated and they can easily bleed.  It can also attribute to bad breath.

A simple cleaning may be all you need.  Please call your dentist.

Hope this helps.
Best to you,
Gellia
