cracks can not always be seen. but its good it doesnt hurt when you bite. if its tender to tapping then you prob have infection somewhere. ifr you can find a general dentist that can do root canals you will save yourself ALOT of money. our endodontist in town charges 1,000-1,200 depending on the tooth. but the general fee is 600-800. it will also depend on the city you live in. but if money is no option endodontist will be the best bet. because they specialize in root canals. plus if its the root canal tooth that needs to be re done that is going to be hard and most general dentists wont touch it. good luck.
Hi luuluu, thank you and regards. I think the tooth is not cracked( my dentist took X-rays two different times and did not say about it I believe he would see it if there is one) Right now I also tested with the toothpick and there is not sharp pain but little dull one( just a little). When i tapped the tooth with the spoon and it has a little tender somewhere inside the gum under that tooth.
I think I might have an infection right by the gum on the side of other tooth( not from top or front/back)the tooth on the side had cavity and my dentist did the filling. between these two teeth area, used to be the worse place to stock food.
Do i need to go to regular dentist or to the endodontics the next, please advice. Thank you again for your response.( sorry for poor language skill)
hi. im a dental assistant. my advice is find a new dentist and get a second opinion. first its not ethical to get you to spend money on other things like perio treatments when you have pain in your mouth. that should be # 1 priority. and in my expierence by not getting the crown bacteria has probably re infected the canals and the root canal should be re done or have the tooth removed. another possibility is that the tooth has cracked. root canals cause teeth to be brittle which is why crowns are required... for protection. you should try this... take a tooth pick and bite on that tooth. if you get a sharp pain when you bite or release with that tooth it may be cracked. in that case extraction or crown is the only option. i would seek out another opinion but dont go in with any opinions of your own. only give them your symptoms and the facts of past treatment with that tooth. a good dentist will diagnose and give you your options, and NOTHING else. good luck. tell me what happens after you test it at home. also try tapping on the tooth with a spoon if that hurts then there is infection at the tips of the roots
