As a reply to your PM. =)
I hope my short answer helped you a little bit. Canker sores are odd and not really understood though.
I may see some caused by trauma from toothbrushing slipping and catching the tissue, from citrus foods, aspirin may cause it too if it is kept inside the cheek. I believe it may also be caused in females due to hormonal changes.
Some toothpastes may cause those lesions to appear as well, so as experiment you may want to see if things may improve with switching toothpaste to something else (see toothpastes without sodium lauryl sulfat, ProNamel by Sensodyne come to mind as one). Mouthwash with alcohol may also cause sores.
As you can see there are a lot of maybes and possibilities.
I would still advise you to get it checked by your dentist just to be on the safe side.
As for the treatment for now, if you are experiencing pain putting vaseline may help to reduce the tenderness, gurgling with warm water + salt can speed up healing process. You can also try using Orabase by Colgate (I believe it is the one containing benzocaine, it is a topical anesthetic so that too should relief any pain you may be experiencing). Oh and please do stay away from spicy foods for now = ouchy! =)
Again, I hope this helps. :)
Sores that never went away - get checked by your dental professional (example: oral cancer screening should be performed).
Sores that returned - if such sores returned on exactly the same spot, then "cold sores" were possibly introduced into the oral cavity.
