sharp boney piece 4 weeks after extraction

I had a very difficult lower molar extraction 4 weeks ago today. It has been a nightmare as they nicked my lingual nerve(no numbness just pain) Flared up my TMJ the likes of which I have never experienced.  They have checked me and had put me on antibiotics early on as a precaution and it seems to be closing with the exception of this long think sharp white boney like thing along my gumline.  Is this normal.  To be honest I am terrified to allow them access to my mouth again as I already had this boney material clipped down once as it was splintered early on in my recovery because it tore my tongue up. I do not feel any sign of infection and if it is normal I will forgo going back to them.  I cannot say they were not concerned as they have called me 3 times to check on me but this last time I had an anxiety attack at the thought of them going anywhere near my slowly healing nerve so they can numb me up and poke around again.
