Can Citalopram/Celexa wear off?

I have been on 40 mg of Citalopram once a day for 2 years now. It has really helped me cope with my major depression and live my everyday life. Lately though, with starting my new semester at school I have become increasingly irritable, withdrawn, moody, and have broken down crying about simple things. These are all symptoms of my previous depression and are really concerning me. Is it possible that the Citalopram has worn off? Do I just need a higher dose? or should I look into switching medications all together?

Thanks for your input

It may have worn off yes. I have been on the 40mg dose, then got changed to 20mg of fluoxetine. Even though it was a change in med and a lesser dose, I felt good. Good enough to go off meds altogether. I'm not saying this will be the case for you, but definitely go see your GP and talk over your options.

Have you tried counselling? Meds are great, but they don't deal with the issues which lead to your depression. I am currently in three different forms of therapy and although it took me a while to feel ready to take these steps, they are the best decision I've ever made. In counselling you learn skills that will set you up for life! Just something to think about.

All the best!

I think you need to concentrate on meditation which will be very helpful for your mind medication is not a permanent solution for these thing, generally what happens when you are taking any medicine from long time then your body get used to that and it may show slow effect.,
