Depression?

I have a friend, her mother is an insulin dependent since 2002. She's taking norvasc too. During office hours, her mom would stay at home alone while my friend is at work. Lately her mom's behavior changed. Sometimes, in the middle of the night her mom would wake up and murmur  some stuff. Worst now, her mom is somewhat hallucinating, sometimes she's violent and make up some stories.

is her mom suffering from depression? What is the best way to help her mom recover? Is there any side effects of the meds she's taking?

Every day!  3 times a day. Dr.s orders. And they are recorded, He has changed her insulin after 25 years though, he felt the old (70/30) was not doing the trick anymore.  The new one, so far is doing great, Im sorry I forgot the name of it.

As long as her sugar is regulated she's Ok.  Night time is the worse because that's when the sugar drops and that bring's on the hallucinations, the wild chatter etc.. Her dr. has told her over and over that she has to take her sugar and record it, eat properly, many small meals a day, and when she take's her insulin in the pm, make sure and eat something to take her through the night.  The high's and low's can be very damaging to the organs in the body. Mind included.

What is your friends dr. saying about her mom?

Hi,
You didnt mention how old your friend's mother is. My mother is also diabetic and also take's norvasc and many other meds. She also has been known to get up in the middle of the night with what I call rambling. When this happen's we have taken her sugar and It has been low, which has caused this action. I wonder if anyone has checked her sugar at that time?  Also, her (my mom) personality has changed alot since her aging(she's 74) . The dr's have called this dementia, and she tend's to make up some wild stories, and can be a bit difficult to deal with at times. My suggestion would be to have a talk with her dr. and Yes, she probably is experencing depression.  Mind you Gracy, that I am only basing this on my own experince with my dear mother.
