Another suggestion for depression is fish oil supplements. I've read that a lack in Omega 3 in the brain can cause depression. I don't eat any fish at all, so my Naturopath just suggested fish oil supplements. I've always wanted to try them since I have read that fish oil helps with depression, but I hate the taste of fish so much that I avoided it. But the ones my Naturopath recommended taste like lemon! I just read an article that came up when I Googled "fish oil depression" and it mentioned a trial that was run and it said that 69% of people felt improvement of their depression symptoms after three weeks on fish oil supplements. Worth a try! And good for your heart too! Good luck to you!
Oh also they have another product called Seredyn, which is very good for anxiety and related symptoms such as palputations, it has valerian extract, passion flower and some other very good calming herbs that i cant think of off the top of my head, but again goodle and have a read and see what you think. Ive been told they work best when taken both together as any mild side effects can be eased by taking the seredyn.
Yes you can take both together. Not true that the rhodiola helps to keep it in the body. Rhodiola rosea is a stimulant adaptogen with affinity to dopamine. 5-HTP on the other hand is a the raw material to synthesize serotonin. Increasing you 5-HTP intake would suggest increased serotonin levels.
I suggest you take the 5-HTP after diner or/and before bedtime. See serotonin is not stimulating, in fact, serotonin gets converted into melatonin that is a hormone used for sleep and balancing you circadian rhythm. Basically you want to have your 5-HTP to calm and get ready to bed and your rhodiola rosea to help with energy during the day.

Maybe instead of taking them individually it may be worth trying something that has them combined in one pill like Amoryn. I suggest googling it and have a read.
