Yes, I agree with brice when he says that the anti-depressant and therapy are a good combination. If your therapist opposes the medication at all, the therapist is most likely afraid that once you feel better, you may not feel a need for the therapy any more. And anti-depressants are worth it so that you can get through the therapy more efficiently to go through those hard issues. The two together are the best, unless you get a bad therapist like I did.
So give the anti-depressant a try. It usually takes about a month for them to work, but with one of them, my friend, my mother and I all felt a difference within days. If you don't get relief within a month, the doctor should either increase the medication, or change to another one in a different class of anti-depressants. So it can take time to find the right med.
Wish you the best. Let me know what you decide.

Depression is a wreck, isn't it? You'll be glad to know that there are a lot of real good people here dealing with their depression. So, you're not alone and there is some wonderful support here and some great, great advice!
It sounds like your therapist is trying to get to the cause of the depression. That is good, but it is kind of trying to have to go and relive all of those crappy things again, and again... isn't it? It does become a bit easier as you being to heal. It's kind of like healing gets momentum and telling your story gets easier.... An antidepressant and therapy are a good combination, so don't discount an antidepressant. Feel free to talk with your therapist and your doctor about a suitable antidepressant for your diagnosis.
And by all means, do things you enjoy. Completely throw yourself into those fun things. Heck, even a bit of sunshine does me wonders!
Thank you, that is good to know! I have tried anti-depressants but I am (as of recently) considering them. My therapist tells me to do more things that I enjoy and to try to work on mending my past, which is a lot easier said than done. I am eighteen and thank you again! Right now I'm just really in need of support.
Hello, welcome. How old are you?
I have had depression for a long time, and I have ups and downs. I think you will find most people with depression do. We just have to ride the ups and downs. Are you on a medication that helps with your depression?
Have you spoken to your doctor and therapist about how you feel? What do they say?
Everyone on this site has depression, so hopefully you will get a lot of replies, and that will make you feel a lot less alone. The support here is great.
I do the mood tracker here, and it is surprising how it shows clearly the ups and downs of my depression.
Take care and keep in touch
