2 yr old with a rash for over 2 months

My daughter has had a rash covering her whole body since mid-January. It is really small pink bumps but some are clustered together. They are covering her she has even gotten a couple of spots on her face recently. I have taken her to the dr a few times now and they just keep telling me to wait it out. They thought at first it was scarlet fever and then now they said it doesn't have a name and they gave me steroid cream for her (which doesn't help) and they gave her some antibiotics. This was over a month ago since then they just tell me to give her oatmeal baths and benedryl. I need some help my daughter has not stopped itching for weeks and she has scabs everywhere. She isn't sleeping at night anymore because she itches so bad! What can I do?

Hi!
First let me say I'm not a doctor, just another parent who has an interest in Dermatological things.

My first thought is maybe scabies?    It's a scary thing to think about but actually very easy to catch.   It causes hive like bumps and severe itchiness, and usually there are telltale marks between fingers. My family has had personal experience when a brother brought it home to myself and my 2 other brothers. We didn't know what it was until they looked at him and did a test for it.  It just required a simple cream to clear it up, but until they figured out what it was I experienced the worst itching of my life and it did keep me up nightly.

Have you thought about asking the doctors about anything like body lice/scabies?

Always check with a doctor of course. Here on MH we have an "Ask an Expert" forum with a dermatology section so feel free to check it out.

sincerely,

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Itchy rashes which involve the whole body are often due to viral infections and allergic reaction. Since the rash has been present for some days without any change, so it can be due to allergies or any other skin manifestation rather than viral reaction which peak up after some days and then goes away.

I suggest you to get your child evaluated immediately from a pediatrician.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. Treatment can be started only when the diagnosis is confirmed. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
