Angular Cheilitis?

A26
Hi, I have these things in the corners of both of my lips, it's kinda like cuts i guess, i looked up angular cheilitis online and it sounds like it may be that. They aren't really cuts anymore, but they are still there on both sides, and they won't go away. I have tried vasoline, hydrocortisone cream, some zinc cream, washing my lips with water and soap and then applying vasoline. They look similiar to the angular cheilitis just not as bad as the pics I've seen online. When they first were there they kinda hurt like when I would open my mouth to eat, but then after about a few days to a week they didn't hurt like that anymore, they just were there. Now, from applying so many different creams and soaps and stuff to my lips, it made my face peel and dry, and then I got a rash by my lips from it.
How do I know if it is Angular Cheilitis or not?? And when I read up online about it, it said normally a doctor would just prescribe 1% hydrocortisone cream anyway, and a lot of people said it doesn't work really. I found one site where it said to wash your face with a concentrated kitchen soap and then after it dries about 10 mns. or longer, apply vasoline and then after 2 hrs or so, wipe it off, it said to do this 3-4 times a day, and that should get rid of a lot the angular cheilitis.
What do you think this is? Is it Angular Cheilitis? or just chapped dry lips? What do I do to help get rid of it faster??
Please help.
Thank you much!

Hello,
Your symptoms are suggestive of angular cheilitis. Angular cheilitis is an inflammatory lesion at the labial commissure, or corner of the mouth and manifests as deep cracks or splits.More commonly it is caused by a fungal infection.

Dry out the lesions completely by patting and air drying after washing with a mild soap and use petroleum jelly to lock out moisture. It is vital that the affected areas be clean and completely dry before application of the jelly. You can also apply small amounts of athlete’s foot cream which is available over the counter.

If the symptoms persist then pls consult a dermatologist as oral antimicrobials may be needed.

I hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.

The Angular Cheilitis Foundation is a hoax. No "foundation" would ever operate on a for-profit basis. People, if you are suffering from angular cheilitis or perleche, please go see your doctor or dermatologist.
