Brown dry patch on lip

For the past week i have had this brown dry patch on my lip and it has began to increase in width daily.  The patch started off unnoticeable and now it's very apparent.  The area is numb like the feeling you get when you leave the dentist after an anesthetic is given to you. It feels like a pieces of tape is on my lip and when i run my tongue across the area it feels noticeably different from the rest of my lip.  Any help would be greatly appreciated because now im at the point that I feel i need to go see a Doctor... HELP!!!

Update the brown dry patch peeled off today. I have been vigorously applying tea tree oil to it since day one. I have also tried honey, hydrogen peroxide, pure grain alcohol, diluted bleach, witch hazel you name it...lol Its day 7 today and the brown patch peeled off. I think that this was possibly a fungus. Im almost tempted not to go to the doctor now but am not sure. I will closely watch it for the next day or two and continuously apply the tea tree oil.  If the patch rears it ugly head again i will definitely go to the doctor! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated though... Thanks

Yes, it is time to go to the doctor.  It could be something as minor as a fungal infection to as important as a basal cell or squamous cell skin cancer.  Maybe lichen planus can present that way - I'm not sure.  But have it looked at since it is growing.
